my boys have gotten stepped on and kicked (on accident, of course!), and we've luckily never had a bad injury...they typically will just jump out of the way afterwords. Most of the time it happens when I have something they think they need, so they'll get under and between my feet, and they'll of course get stepped on or kicked...my boys are 4 and 5 lbs, so they're a bit more sturdy than the tinies. I do agree though, being careful is key!

Yorkiepuppie: Neither of us have actually stepped on Roxy... yet, but a few close calls. It is something I worry about though. I have taught her to stay back away when I'm running the vaccuum which really helps. She understands 'back' & 'wait' pretty well & that really helps. If she wants to move somewhere after I say 'wait' that's OK as long as it's away from where I'm working.

If all else fails, it's amd's Bully Stick time! Yea!!!

Jackson doesn't typically stand under me and he's learned to have quick reflexes, lol. But I've stepped on him a few times, but only once where he yelped. I felt soo bad. Luckily, he's on the larger side.

I've stepped on Nala's paws a few times and she doesn't even notice...shes tough! She's also not great at staying out of under your feet. Bandit's excellent at it and I've never stepped on him.... until this Wednesday. We were going to the park, and they were crazy getting out of the car and wrapped themselves around my legs and I stepped on Bandit's paw...I felt so bad!!! He limped for a few steps and yelped but he was fine. I was ready to freak out!!

I never wear heels nor hard shoes in the house...just in case.

I didn't read the whole thread - but I would think we've all accidentally steped on our little walking VELCROS

The other thing that comes to mind is doors - I've seen puppies (hurt very badly or worse) :(....having a door shut on them by accident - same with stairs. There's so much to have to be careful about especially with tiny dogs

No, I've never stepped on Prince, but, I've almost broken my neck, several times, trying not to.:D

When we come in we take our shoes off and DH wears socks and I put on slippers. We have hardwood floors so we slide instead of walk.

haha me too - I've never stepped on a body part - but have stepped back on Chanel's long hair when she used to lay behind me when I did dishes. She now touches my leg with her nose when she's behind me - it's pretty cute - just a little nose-butt against my calf. :D

I felt so bad today: DH and I were walking Indy and having a conversation when Indy crossed over in front of me and I stepped on her little paw. She yelped, I yelped! For the rest of the walk she was very wary of my feet. Although I must say it's not a bad thing if she learns to be aware of people's feet: not everyone will see such a small pup and it's better if she moves for people so she doesn't get hurt.

does anyone know of any way to teach the dogs not to always stay near your feet and walk between your feet when you are trying to walk. it really is dangerous especially for these small breeds. it's dangerous for them and for us too, because we can fall down and hurt ourselves and hurt them!

davinci is still always between my feet even after i stepped on him. he is still not afraid, and i dont want him to learn to not be near my feet all the time through injury!

we do the Yorkie Shuffle, too. It works.

what i mean is if there is anyway to teach them to not stand near people's feet because even if i remember to do yorkie shuffle all the time, other people coming to my house or when i take the dogs out, other people are not going to be doing yorkie shuffle and they can step on the dogs.

Bailey gets so angry he will attack the person's feet who "stepped" on him. I'll take it one step further (no pun intended) LOL... If you almost step on him and scare him he will still attack your feet! HaHa

I don't know of a way to teach them this specifically, if they are stepped on enough they will learn, but they might just learn to bite/bark at feet. I don't let Joey free roam at parties where they are people who aren't crazy in love with him. It's just too dangerous, and girls in heels are a nightmare.
