Nails sharp and razors DJ my little man nails are so sharp and pointy...they get caught on EVERYTHING. On my shirt on the puppy pad...he ends up dragging around the puppy pad with his nails. Do you think I should just trim them down?? He is getting caught on everything...any suggestions? |
It's never too early to start working with them on pedicures. Just trim the very tips off. A baby that young the quick will be close to the end of the nail so you don't want to cut too much off. Just enough to blunt the tip so it'll quit catching on everything. And remember LOTS of praise for DJ when he cooperates and lets you trim him. If he fusses too much and doesn't want to sit still for all his little toes to be done at once, do one or two today, another couple tomorrow, more the next day, etc. until he gets used to it and will let you do more. I'd have some Quickstop handy just in case you clip too much off. You'll want to stop any bleeding ASAP. |

i would try a electric file like the pet-a-paws he may not like it at first but he will get used to it given time you can buy it at petsmart and thear are instructions inside for getting them used to it |
when my puppies were that age I used regular nail clippers, put them in my lap on their back and just clipped the tips off... like another post said you don't want to cut too much off b/c they will bleed... please follow the advice |
As soon as you posted It was ok I just clipped the top off so it was not so pointy and sharp to catch eveything. Now he is good and not catching on to everything :) thanks |
I use an emery board too for smoothness - it really helps - the nails are paper thin at this age - so be careful !! They'll file down quickly so a few gentle swipes is all you need if they're still sharp |
