Running around...? Hi everyone! Ok so while observing my new Yorkie girl's habits and quirks...I noticed she sometimes tends to run back and forth like crazy and growl/bark...3-4 times and then later again... ...Is this normal puppy behavior? Or...yorkie puppy behavior? My other dog is a chihuahua and she's 14 y.o. so I don't really remember what she was like as a puppy.... As for the biting/chewing problem I had posted about, I'm working on repeating "no" in a deep serious voice and believe it or not that works better for her...she at least pauses sometimes while chewing on my fingers :P |
Yes, I think it's pretty normal behavior. Lexi also did it when she was a puppy, actually she still does sometimes :) |
Does she do this when she is playing? Pixie likes to run around the living room at night when I play with her. She gets going and I swear she is on a speed track! lol I call it the zoom mode!! I find she doesn't do it as much when we can get outside and get our walks in.. So it just might be a way of her getting rid of some energy!! |
Yep...Trixie is doing that more and more now that she is getting used to her new home. She runs like mad from the living room into the den over and over again....she crouches, jumps, growls....looks like a fun game :animal-pa |
It's usually done at random...At first i though she was scared of some noise or something but then I figured out she just does that sometimes...usually when nobody's playing with her at that moment! And she IS fast! Even when she doesn't do the super-run...I watch my feet when I walk now, because I'm afraid I'll step on her! Thank you! |
I also agree with the posts above. My little Twinkie does that especially after a bath. I think it is so funny. She also does it when playing around the cats. I think, she thinks, she is trying to dominate them, but you know cats...they dominate all. :) She ran around like that more in the winter. I have read if they get frequent exercise outside, the less they will act crazy inside. |
Both my girls do that too. I questioned the behavior as well, I thought Lola was insane when I first witnessed what I thought was freaking behavior. However, I learned so much from all the posters on YT and the bahavior is called "zoomies" is that so perfect and cute? Zoomies!!! |

Well she definitely gets the zoomies then! :D Pretty often too! Probably because she can't go out for walks yet because she's only 7 weeks! (well I guess she's 8 weeks now...). So she uses her energy up biting/chewing/...zooming? :D Sometimes she won't hear "no", or she just won't stop! It's frustrating and a bit scary [my chihuahua (14 y. o. ) is a great biter, but she's just mean...and the reason I wanted a puppy was to actually have a dog that wants to hang out and play and cuddle! Unlike my chihuahua who basically hates everyone in her old age!]...It doesn't mean she'll become a biter right? If she doesn't stop sometimes? I'm just worried...I know I have to be patient! |
Mine do this. I call it their mad hour. lol. Hugs Shirl x x |

I'm working on the "time-out" way from now on...it seems to calm her down, if nothing else...If she doesn't listen to "no" and a hand clap, she gets a time-out (which is in the bathroom because I don't use a crate (my bedroom is her playpen/crate! She's already 70% potty trained that's why). Patience, patience, patience...she's a little rascal but I looooooove her so much :) |
