bark, bark, bark, bark, bark! Hi everyone, Looking for suggestions, presently I have a contractor working at my house and my two furry friends must bark whenever he enters the house. Now, the contractor is doing a lot of this in/out stuff so I am going bonkers. And yelling is not the solution (of course, I know that but continue to do it!) Also, when I leave the house I must secure them in one room (which I presently do), but there is no barking because there is no reason to, if no one is home. But, there is someone home now! just not someone that is going to give them the attention they think they deserve so, they will bark. This project will take about two months. help[F][/FONT] |
I have a barker and feel your pain. Maybe you can let the dogs sniff and get to know the contractor so they won't bark at him. |
your going to go "bonkers" Oh no.. 2 months! hopefully they will get used to the contractors & give up the barking! or if it is nice weather maybe you could take them outside for an hour or so every day. |
Maybe you should read this thread about the Barking Repeller. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...-repeller.html I use to use pennies in a can, and they worked for everything except contactors, and the noise of the pennies, seemed to agitate the Joey, the contractor and me, which would in turn, would make Joey bark more. You could train by putting the dogs in the room when your at home, and just hit the button when they bark. The main thing you need to know is don't ever use it when they are too close, and never when they are within a foot of you, don't hold the button, but click it fast. It emits a high-pitched noise that only they can hear, it's not painful for them, but the noise must be unpleasant, because many people have had great results. I allow Joey to bark at certain things, and give him a limit where enough is enough, so I don't use the Repeller at the first bark only after I've said no, and raised my finger to my lips. I bought my Bark Repeller though Amazon, and it was only $15.00 including shipping. Love it! |
getting to know interloper Well, it is a hope that he will seem just a part of the family and there will be no reason to bark. The contractor does acknowledge them when he arrives, provides them with a little love. I don't think he thinks these two are "real" dogs, (he has two black labs) even though they sound like it! |
hmm Interesting about bark repeller have others used, what do you think? |
OMG, I feel your pain. I have the man here servicing the A/C unit and Coco is going bonkers.:animal36 He's even outside, but when she hears any kind of noise she knows he's there and she's going crazy. I can't imagine 2 months!!!!! |
sorry Did check other thread you referred me to and there is everything I might want to know about how others have used the "bark repeller" thank you! |

Funny how things work with our smarter than average Yorkies, especially when treats are involved. They manipulate us by exhibiting the behavior so they then can be good and get a treat. Anyways, they must have been reading this forum and felt embarassed that I was writing about them and are rather quiet today. |

I have the bark repeller as well and find it very handy :) |
It worked! Just wanted to say thanks to Nancy 1999 for her suggestion to try "bark repeller", I only needed to use once! Both dogs stopped barking and came running, so I gave them a treat! I "negative marked" them with an "unhuh" before I pushed the button. Now when they are barking I just say "unhuh" and they come running. What is interesting to me is that I thought they would go back to barking once they got the treat, but they don't. Thanks so much!http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...es/biggrin.gif |

Chloe is my barker and I mean BARKER. So, I got a bark repeller and it worked like a charm for about two weeks. I didn't even have to use it, I just showed it to her. Then nothing. She totally ignored it. I changed the batteries and everything thinking it wasn't working. Finally, I tried it on my son's dog, it was working. It never worked on her again. Then I got Willow shortly after and didn't want to subject her to it, besides at the time she was too young to hear it. I'm glad it is working for you, I've tried everything and nothing has worked on Chloe, I think I'll try earplugs. |
