Face Trimming I really need to trim Jacksons face. But he won't stay still and tries to push me away, even when I brush him. Any ideas? |
I can only trim Mollys face after a long walk, when she has fallen into a deep sleep, and even then i sometimes can only do one side at a time! She has to go out looking lopsided occasionally! :) |

You need to slowly get him use to the scissors and comb. I don't even attempt doing Pixie, but my groomer holds her lil beard so that she doesn't move and if Pixie fights her bc at first she did, she moves with Pixie and doesn't let go until Pixie stops pulling. Now Pixie sits still while she is groomed. I am too afraid to trim with scissors. You are brave;) |

You can usually find a groomer not at Petsmart, do a google search :) They will usually do a clean-up trim. But what I do for my Jackson is use lots of food. I usually will trim him up after exercise (a long walk, or a day at the dog park) when he's almost too tired to care. I use a really yummy treat (like real meat) when getting a bath and trimming hair. Get him used to you touching his face first without even using the scissors and always treat him and tell him he's a good boy. Then slowly introduce the scissors. Maybe even just lay them on the bed, with a treat on top of them and let him associate them with a good thing! |
Lexi *HATES* having her face hair trimmed. I've tried everything above from trying to get her used to the scissors to trying to tire her out, even treats won't do it. There is only one thing that works which is when my boyfriend holds her and I do the trimming. For some reason, his presence makes her sit like an angel. However if it's just me, you can forget about it. |
I like the face shorter. I actually buzz on top of the nose and on each side of the nose. Can't stand the hair getting into his mouth. The hair growing on each side of his face is actually so thick I can't get scissors threw it. I have to cut the under part first and then come back and cut the outer, evening it up on each side. The pup looks so much younger, IMO, when the face is short. When Buddy's face is longer he reminds me of an old man:p |
I am just barely able to wipe his face with a baby wipe. He does let me wash his feet with one though, LOL... I'll try all of the above... I have to find my scissors anyway. Wish me luck. |
The groomer buzzed pennys nose and the side of her nose and i didnt even ask her to ..I LOVE IT way easier to clean eye goop no hair in her eyes god its wonderful i can see her face here are pre and post shave pics her face is so bright now Post shave http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...68769191-1.jpg pre shave http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a...66346922-1.jpg |
My Mabel turns into a snarling, vicious biting devil! I have tried all of these things myself and nothing works! I don't know how the groomer does it and I don't want to know! Whatever she charges is less expensive than a trip to the ER with extensive animal bites to the hands!! LOL!!! If you discover the secret will you please let me know?! |

I had been able to trim my first yorkies face with scissors, but with Trixie I am not sure. She went to the vet for the first time yesterday and the vet trimmed her face and her little bottom with a buzzer not scissors. :animal-pa |
I brush Reesie every morning and now she doesn't run when she sees the brush. I'm as gentle as I can be and still do good job, and I talk to her quietly as I work. By the time I get to her head and face, her eyes are drooping she's so relaxed! It takes time to get them used to being brushed but when they know you're going to be gentle they might not put up a fight. I don't like to trim, I let then groomer do that, but once in a while I trim around her nose at the end of our brush session. |

treats, treats, and treats!!!! Give lots of treats (small, of course...don't make the little one have a tummy ache!), and give lots of verbal praise for being good. When they're nervous and angry with you, try using words like "easy", "it's ok", "you're fine"...with a soft and calm voice. The calmer you are, the calmer your baby will be. Good luck!!! |

My 2 are good about everything except having their faces combed out. I an trim but they just like to be brushed or combed on their faces. I just hold on to each side of the their beards and Maggie will give in but Hot Rod fights me all the way. so long as I don't come near his face with anything he's okay. I can use my hands or I found these small clear baby rubber combs at Babies R Us and I can work with his face so long as I use these. |
Oh, this morning he let me do his face better with the brush when i put my thumb in his mouth and held his bottom jaw still. LOL... so he thought he was playing with me and i was holding him... worked pretty well.. |
