I Need Help-- Walking Hi everyone, so I take Ava out for a walk, and she is CONSTANTLY pulling on her harness... she chokes herself. Can anyone recommend the best non-choking harnesses out there? Thank you! |
I use these step in choke free and really like them. I think I originally found this ladys website here on YT. Yorkshire Terrier Dogs,Choke Free Harness,Dog,Pets,Leathe,Harnesses, leash, leads |
Oh, great-- thank you! I'm still open for other suggestions everyone. |
right now i use the step in harnesses from petsmart...they run about $10. Also i teach mine to heel and walk next to me....lol...Ting Ting has a habit of pulling also....and she starts hacking and it scares me....so now she is being taught to heel and walk nice to me....so i don't give her much lead way...hehe |

It means 8",9" etc....you measure just behind the front legs and add an inch. I think there is a link on "how to" measure on there. Also....I may have broke a rule by accident by providing a link to the commercial website. I wasn't thinking, just trying to help, and if I broke a rule, please can someone delete or tell me how to delete the link. Apologies. |

some make the mistake of treating them right when they start pulling then the dog thinks that is what they are getting reward for....lol |
The "E-Z Walk." It is even working for Nala!!!! It clips in the front and when they pull it almost pinches the pieces of fabric together and turns the pup around to face you so they can't pull anymore. I know I'm not explaining it well, but it's great. It was about $25. |
Walk her a few feet, then stop. Then, place her in the sit position. Praise her when she obeys. Work on walk (come) , sit, stay, walk, one word commands. Just because they are so darn cute does not mean that you can't train them gently. When you stop, they should stop and sit. I agree, it was harder to train the Yorkie than my cane Corso, but with patience and praise you can do it. Smart on the harness...never a collar. |
Callie used to make the choking noise with a step in harness then I heard about the buddybelt harness and got one (they are expensive) but now she doesn't make any noises if she pulls. I think the buddybelt is the best harness. |
Yes, she makes the choking noise :( Makes me feel awful. and like I'm hurting her! I will look into everything you all have suggested, thank you! |
Chattiesmom here on YT makes GREAT harnesses for these little beings...out of silk. Great for their hair and they fit their little bodies PERFECTLY without harm :) You should check her out. |
