Have I made a mistake?? An aquaintance recently rescued a little 3 yr old male. Poor Zack did not come from the best of living conditions. :( When she brought him to the vet for a check-up...he ended up having to have most of his teeth pulled. I talked to her about yorkies and invited her to join us here. Well, long story short, she just lost her best friend to suicide a week ago. I just spoke with her to see how little Zack is doing, and she said she was just thinking of calling me to help her find him a new home. :( She is so depressed right now and feels she's neglecting him. I asked her to give it a few more days; that he could help her if she'd let him. Now, to my original question........I offered to foster him for a few days until she feels better. But, Zack is not neutered and my 4 boys and 2 girls are. Am I going to have a problem on my hand? I don't want to cause any undue stress on any of them. I know Zack is not potty trained, but, belly bands can take care of that. (Heck, I have to clean up accidents everyday!) Anyone got any advise for me? |
That is a tough one. You are very kind to offer to help. I will bump this up so maybe someone can help. |
is there a way you can xpen him seperately so that 1-he doesn't potty all over and 2- the rest of the crew can go to him when they are ready? this might be a time in your friends life when having a dog isn't the answer, but then again those of us who are attached to our dogs, we see it as a release. someone to hug and cry to. When I lost my 18 year old hheart dog, my husband got me trixie two days later. I hated her (and him) for the first week, but i learned to just hug her when i missed snoopy. I would go sit on snoopy's grave and trixie would sit about 4 feet back behind me, and wait. occasionaly rolling her ball to me but i knew if i turned my grief to her and love on her i would adjust...this friend of yours might not be able to do that. |
I agree, sometimes having a pet is what gets you out of bed. Even if you don't feel like eating, you know they do. I would take it on a trial basis and see how it goes. Maybe she'll realize she misses him too much and need him back? Good luck to both of you. |
