Groomer cut nail WAY too short--bleeding Betty Boop was groomed this morning. The groomer didn't tell me about cutting WAY into the quick on one of her nails, and I didn't notice until I got home when I saw trails of blood on the carpet. I don't have a styptic pencil. What else can I use to stop the bleeding? She is licking it and trying to keep it clean. |
My DIL is a vet tech and she has told me cornmeal or flour will work if you don't have anything else. |
A dog's quick continues to grow, and if you don't cut the nails often enough the groomer may have to cut into the quick. I've been told that flour or pepper work to stop bleeding, but I have never tested this. |
Thanks for the tip. Flour it is. I have her groomed every 4 weeks and they always trim the nails. This time, she must have wiggled???? Not sure. She doesn't have much of a toenail left. I'm going to have to get out the carpet cleaner. |

I've heard cornmeal works better than flour for stopping the bleeding. And yes, hydrogen peroxide for getting the blood out. |

groomers recommend to use baking powder as well... most people have that at home already!! your furbaby will be just fine!! |
Thanks everyone. I know accidents happen. I'm just overprotective. The flour worked just fine and the peroxide worked too! What a great support group you all are! BTW, she sure looks pretty today!!!! |
