Getting spayed today ...SIKE! So I take little Philsters up to the Vet this morning to get spayed and drop her off. Late getting to work b/c of the Vet drop off time. I get a call from the Vet saying she is only weighing in at 4.1 ounces and doesn't have but one set of Adult teeth so they want to put off spaying her for another month. So my built up worry and stress is now releived for at least another month. I am now thinking up having my male done in the waiting period so we dont have to worry about her. Crazy start to my day! Has anyone heard of waiting to get your furbaby spayed until she has more adult teeth? I am very happy I have such a cautious Vet :) |
I'm glad you got a reprieve for today, but I haven't heard of them all not coming in around the same time. I'm sure it has probably happened. I've heard of them having to cut into the gum somehow to help them along, but I've never had one do that, either. Good luck! Now, you can let out that breath you were holding for awhile at least.:) |
First of all thanks for being responsible and spaying and neutering your male and female. Take it from me, its very hard keeping them apart when the female is in heat. My vet spayed and neutered my Yorkies and they only weighed 3 lbs. Your vet has to be experienced with anesthesia and small breeds like Yorkies. Make sure he runs a Full Blood Panel, CBC. This is very important. Also make sure your vet only uses Isoflurane or sevoflurane for anesthesia. I am glad he is taking percaution, sounds like a good vet to me. Good Luck and keep us informed. |
I've read of a few members whose vets suggested waiting after they've been dropped off for the procedure. This is great that your vet is conscientious about his patients. :) |
Wow I would be so relieved as well. I have an appointment for Pixie next month and I am already worried about it bc she has to have teeth removed as well. Poor lil baby. The vet said he would micro-chip her as well but I am wondering if that is all too much for one appointment. I don't want poor Pixie to be in pain all over her body. Any opinions would be appreciated. |
