best harness leashes?? Hi there! I'm preparing for my new furbaby and I am wondering what is the best kind of harness leash to get for him? He weighs about 5-6 pounds. About how much do these cost? Is there any good place to order them online so I can get a really cute one? Also, what about crating him? Should I get the smallest crate possible? How much should they cost? What should I do about keeping him in the same area with me when he first comes home with me?? So many questions.... |

I just wanted to welcome you to yorkie talk and to congratulate you on becoming a yorkie-mommy-to-be!:aimeeyork:) Wow, there are so many choices and so many opinions about everything, but one thing I think everyone will agree on is to only use a harness...never a collar. I prefer the step-in harness...easy on, easy off. The price varies. Have fun with your baby boy and don't forget to post pictures!! |
Thanks for that, I only plan to get a harness, good to know the step in kind is good!! I'm getting excited!!! |
i prefer step in harnesses also! you can get them at petsmart for around $10 Grreat Choice® Comfort Wrap Step In Harness - Harnesses - Collars, Tags & Leashes - PetSmart |
Welcome! Seems like we're neighbors. ;) I also use a step in harness. My boy wears a collar for id purposes only, and for walks I slip on his harness (inexpensive from PetSmart) and attach the leash to that. I will say that I've been wanting to "upgrade" to the silk step in harness made by Chattiesmom. You're going to regret joining this site. So many wonderful people that sell amazing stuff for pups. Most handmade, customized, and inexpensive. I've had my eye on so many things I'm actually keeping a list! :p Congrats on your new addition!!! |
i was looking at the ones on this site, the seller is a YT member and said they are on sale (though i can't exactly determine the price) ... they are leather, which seems pretty nice!! what do you think? Your shopping cart :: The Sassy Pup Boutique |
i like the puppia harnesses and buy Molly's from ebay. They always seem really comfortable and fit well. |

I just ordered my chattiesmom harnesses and cant wait to get them. I have used puppias in the past and like them but the dogs do struggle sometimes when I am putting them on and they tend to mat the hair. This place is TERRIBLE on the checkbook :thumbdown |
I prefer this type of step-in harness: PETCO Pup Crew Pink Stripe Body Harness for Dogs at PETCO With some of the so-called "step-in" harnesses, you still have to slip their heads through an opening, so I really don't consider them to be truly step-in. This type just goes on like a straight jacket, which makes it much easier when you've got a wiggler. |

I'm a fan of the buddy belt harness, I really love it, it's made of soft leather, that doesn't tangle the hair, yet it's strong enough to swoop them up, if a large dog is approaching. It also has a buckle, instead of one of those little clasps that have a mind of their own. You say that the dog is 5 pounds, how old is it, is the crate for house breaking or just something you'd like him to sleep in? For housebreaking you want a fairly small crate, with no more room than for them to stand up in and turn around in, so they won't be tempted to pee on one side. If you are using it for longer periods than you want a larger crate, some people use the larger crate for house breaking and just partition off part of it. JesBred gave me this link the other day, she said that they were having a sale on Buddy Belts. BUDDY BELT HARNESSES *** REGULAR, SPECIAL, FANCY & LUXURY COLORS |
