to the multi-furbaby owners - difference between 2 and 3? Okay so I added Ralphie (he will be one year old) to our family (my yorkie girl, Billie, is age 6) kind of on a whim...I was waiting for a little girl pup to turn 12 weeks old but then Ralphie's breeder decided he won't be a show pup after all so I got him. Billie has been ok with him, a little mopey with me but this too shall pass. I am thinking lots about the little girl puppy that I was hoping to get...and I still want to add her to our family. I see a big difference between having just Billie, and haivng Billie & Ralphie together. I am asking to the multi-pet people, what are the potential negatives of adding a third now? Another young pup may take some of the heat off Billie as Ralphie non-stop wants to play with her and their age difference means huge difference in their energy levels. I would love to hear people's thoughts and experiences with having more than 2 yorkies, thanks! |
I don't think there is much difference with 2 or 3....i give all of mine a bath at the same time...when Yoshi was with us shortly after I got Ting Ting...i gave all 4 of them a bath together...dried them together of course there was both me and my ex bf that was brushing and them...but at that time only Mei Ling was in almost full coat so i worked on her while the ex bf dried off Yoshi and Kioko...and Ting Ting was just a puppy so that was nothing either so i did both girls...it is 3 times the work but no harder than twice the work...if the other 2 is already potty trained then bringing home a puppy won't be so bad either... |
Do you have a yard? When I got my third Yorkie, I found it hard because I had to walk all three and it was a challenge. Sometimes I would walk them in shifts. I found three much harder than two, but that was just my experience. Now I have a yard and it has made all the difference. |
Although, I don't have more than 2 yorkies, I do have a poodle and Papillon that were foster kids, we chose to add to our family. Going from one to two was more difficult for me, than going from 2 to 3 and then 3 to 4. I had Ruby and Reno for 1 1/2 years together before Louis and Scout came along. Ruby and Reno stick together more and then Louis and Scout are inseparable. I do grooming on different days, as I also currently have 2 foster girls....too many for one days grooming:) I think if you are confident you can take care of, and have the resources to own 3 yorkies then go for it......I do believe it will help Billie and Ralphie, as the new pup and Ralphie will tend to keep each other occupied. |
I have 3 yorkies and to me it wasn't a really big difference than when I had 2. Two of them are siblings and Rosco is a couple months younger than them. They are a little over a year old. If you want the puppy I say go for it.:) |
Ok having three is great. But just to point out a few things to think about... Two puppies can keep you twice as busy...they are always playing (good) and if they get into trouble it is double the trouble lol. Also potty training can be more difficult. And of course financially it is more of a responsibility.... That being said if she is right for your family than she will be worth the extra "work". Let us know what you decide |
We had two puppies at the same time and they have been best friends since. Last year, we added our third, Teddy, and I found it completely difficult and disruptive to our household. Teddy is unlike the others - he's a strange child - so things are just not easy for us with the third dog. With that being said, he is an absolute joy and part of the family and I count imagine not having all three. |
I only have two yorkies of my own, but my sister's elderly labrador is also living with us and I must say that having the lab as a third isn't as hard as I thought it would be. I always thought that having more than two dogs is difficult because you only have two hands - who do you cuddle and tickle when all three want attention and you only have two hands? Although I am completely in love with June, my second one (who just turned a year old!), it was very hard for both me and Cash when she came home. That being said, I have been hankering towards getting another one myself!! But I don't think there will ever be enough yorkies in my house!! |
