Will boy /girl combination work? Thinking of getting a boy play mate for Tia does this combination work or would I be better off getting her a sister??He won't be neutered so my insticts tell me thats what I should get done first am I right? Tia is spade however will he be humpty humptying her till the neuter is done? |
It depends on how old he is... I have a male/female combination. They were neutered when they each got to be 5 months old. He doesn't mark, and he still squats like his Mommy taught him. Humping is more of a "dominence" thing ... he doesn't bother her (or us!), but he has a favorite bed that catches all kinds of hell ;). Other than that, we're all safe :) They get along fine. He THINKS he's the alpha dog (we have 4 dogs total in the household), but that's only because she lets him think that. If he tries to do something she really doesn't like, she reads him the riot act and then everyone knows who's REALLY in control :D |
I have a boy Castor Pollux didn't start humping until he was 7 months... I want to get a girl next year. he'll be 2 when i get her... please please please please let me know how that worked out-- Castor Pollux is the star of my life. let me know how the introduction goes and how they take to each other. I was thinking about getting castor pollux a sister so I talked to the trainer about it and because he is SOOOO super spoiled, I shouldn't get him a sister, he'll get really jealous-- but if i had to, I shouldn't bring the girl home for a while, like he'd have to get used to her via visits before i bring her into his "us territory" His little hous is his, his toys are his, but my house is OURS and bringing the new girl there first would piss him off, until he realizes that the new girl is an US to. |
How old is the boy? Is he old enough to have learned that behavior? Yes, you will want to get him neutered soon, depending on how old he is. Personally, I like the boy/girl combination. They seem to have fewer clashes than 2 females, although this always depends on the particular pups. Good luck!! :D |
I have the boy/girl combo and it works great. Jada is a retired breeder so she was already spade when we adopted her. Bogie was 10 mos when we adopted him and we had him neutered the week we got him. He has never lifted his leg or humped anything. They also get along great. |
they say that male and female get along better than 2 females..... i have 2 females, and they get along great, so i think he really depends on the dogs, and how they are trained |
I just got a new pup, a little girl, and like you I just loved my boy that I've had for almost two years this summer. I was really worried they would not get along (as if someone was going, it would NOT be Rocky). It has worked out great! Sure, he gets annoyed by her at times and wants to be left alone. She gets annoyed by him always trying to steal her chewies and tells him off sometimes. Overall, it really works great. They can play and have fun and keep each other company. This pair seemed to hit it off - not sure that happens every time but if you're diligent with watching them you will tell them that you are the boss and you decide who is part of the family or not. Go for it! Good luck! |
Has always worked out for me!:D |
I've got a 17 month old Female not spayed and a 15 month old boy who is neutered. They are best friends :D Neither of them hump lol |
It didn't work out. :(We went to see the little guy tonight and he was the sweetest thing however he was very frisky if you get my meaning lol Tia was cowering in the corner in minuites. He was 11 mths old and he had eyes for Tia, he thought she was a hotty! It was hard to walk away but she comes first and she wasn't comftable from the off.( she could of made more of an effort since it took 2 hours to get there) I think I should appreciate what I got and enjoy it.:p |
I'd definitely get a boy, for your little girl...It scares me to think that if I'd got another girl, like my Apple! And he tried to do the "wild thing", when he came, and she wasn't having any part of it...lol...She put him in his place, and he hasn't tried again...She's definitely more aggressive, and he's passive, but I think it is just their individual nature, not their gender...Best wishes in your search for a little bro for Tia... |
