Can she be homesick?
 
My baby just isn't eating very much at all, when she does she only eats maybe 4 or 5 pieces of dog food at a time. She has no problem eating table scraps if I give her those however. Can she be homesick? Her previous owner only had her for about 4 months but she spoiled her to death so I'm sure she was attached to her. I just want to be sure she's ok!

Are you giving her the same kind of dog food she is use to? I had a dog that would only pick out certain pieces of dog food from her bowl. She may be home sick or nervous. My mom puts about a teaspoon of bacon grease over her dogs food to get him to eat. Good luck;)

How many homes has this baby been in? I bet she is very homesick, confused and very used to being fed table scraps if she didn't want to eat her dog food. Of course that's just MY speculation. May I ask the reason she was rehomed? Has she had a vet visit yet? :)

Thanks! I might have to try that. What we're doing is giving her 75% of her old food and 25% of her new food to transition her. The problem is, there's no telling how much people food she was fed by her previous owner.

She was just spoiled by all of the junk food they gave her and it will take time. There are, however, safe and healthy choices to give her in addition to her dog food and I wouldn't hesitate in doing so.:)

Not yet, her last vet visit was at the end of December and everything was fine. She's current on all her shots and heartworm med. I'm pretty sure she's been in at least 4 homes now including mine, which is very sad to me but she isn't going anywhere now! She was neglected by the people who had her before the woman I got her from; the woman I got her from had to find her a new home due to a new job. You're right, she might be very nervous being rehomed so many times like this!

Thanks, yes I'm going to have to try something to coerce her into eating more, I don't want her to get sick!

So my guess would be her being so confused be in yet another new home. Bless your heart for taking her in and giving her her forever home!!! It's going to take a lot of patience and encouragement on your part, but i'm confident she will come around once she's convinced she's there to stay!

No. You don't want that. Sometimes people will just add a little broth and they start eating that way.:) Throw a little cottage cheese next to it and see if it interests her.

Never thought about using cottage cheese, if cottage cheese is safe is it ok to put a little milk over it maybe? I don't have any cottage cheese or bacon right now and I want her to eat something.

Just remember that some of them - and always mine- can't drink milk without throwing up. Cottage cheese is safe in small amounts. No bacon or pork. You could try a little milk. A little bit should be ok.

I feed mine half baked chicken breast and half Natural Balance Ultra Premium Small Bites.

Have you got any Parmesan cheese or just a little bit of any cheese to put tiny bites on top of it?

I was going to explain that some yorkies are lactose intolerant but not all. Mine always were and are.:D

Yes, I always have cheese and I do have parmesian I believe. Thanks for the bit on the lactose intolerance, wasn't aware of that. I've never been one to give dogs milk anyway but it seemed like something to try. The cheese might be better for her though.

Oh yes I fed her some scrambled egg from my breakfast burrito this morning she loved it. Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try some cheese and see if it will help.

You could add some water to her dog food, stir in the egg & cheese & let the juice flavors soak into the dog food. That might help get the dog food more enticing to eat & help to keep her from picking out the good stuff.

Another thing mine loves is cooked carrots. She doesn't like green beans or anything like that though.:D Veggies are good for them.

That's a good idea. I was trying to rack my brain. It's been awhile since I've had any of these eating problems.

If yours won't eat regular sized green beans, I puree mine and Bailey eats his up when I do that!!! :)

I might try that next time.

Now, as a puppy, she used to love the baby carrots raw. She won't do that anymore. But she loves them cooked. She likes them even more when I take some out of homemade vegetable soup.:D

I also wanted to add to the many helpful posts that you could try a little pumpkin in her food. It's really good for them, cleans them out :) Just make sure it is 100% pumpkin (in a can) they usually love it!

Also I wanted to encourage you...She may be a little skeptical now of what home she belongs to but when she realizes you are not going anywhere (or her) she will be your best bud for life! I really think she will always honor the care you are giving her right now!! Good on you! Keep up the good work

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!! I really appreciate it I'm going to buy her some veggies next time I'm at the store and a can of pumpkin (thats really interesting thanks for sharing that bit of info).

I tried the parmesian cheese over her food and she almost ate the entire bowl of food!! I was so happy to finally see her eating, thanks so much for all the help, now I know what to do :D.

Oh, good! I'm so glad she ate. That's the worst feeling - when they won't eat. It didn't take all that much to get her to eat, either, did it? Let us all know how she does from now on. OK?:)
