What do I need to give my 8 week old? Do I need to give my new 8 week old any supplements like nutra-cal or a sugar solution? I have a 3 yr old yorkie. He had a small parasite when he was a puppy and got REALLY sick from low sugar. I want to be prepared when I get my new one. Any suggestions on what to have on hand? How much/often to feed him and give him supplments? |

I would feed him 4-5 times a day. By supplements, do you mean the Nutrical? No. I never used that unless there appeared to be a need for it. I do give them a vitamin everyday and I have always given them to mine. Good luck! |
Thanks for the help. So you don't give them anything to keep their blood sugar up the first few weeks? They gave me something to give my first yorkie till he was 12 weeks old (I think it was nutrical). But like I said he got sick anyway and then I had to give him Karo syrup every 2 hours for a couple of nights. It was awful, I thought he was going to die. I took him to the vet when I got him, but they didn't catch his parasite then. I am praying things will go a lot better with this one. It has been kept in the house. Roscoe was born in a kennel and kept out there. I know that any dog can get parasites or virus, but maybe he hasn't been exposed to as much. Thanks again.:) |

Just to be on the safe side my vet and breeder both suggested that I give Sadie Nutrical until she was 6 months old....morning and night. After 6 months just give if you notice your puppy isn't acting normal. Sadie just turned a year old and I only give it to her when we are traveling....she hates loooonnnnggg car rides. Hope this helps and congrats on your new pup! |
