How much do you spend on your dogs? I just got a morkie last week. I didn't know they are sooooooo expensive to take care of. I mean...between the shots, the microchipping, the heartworm medicine, and the licensing...I was spending nearly $400! I ended up having to take a loan out from Payday Loans, Cash & Payday Advance - PayDayOne.com. Well, I guess Lil' Bear is worth it...he's so adorable! |
I have found the opposite. I was glad to get an itty bitty baby because it is easier on the pockets than a bigger breed. I think it has to do with where you live as well. Luckily the vets close to me are cheeper than most. The only big expense was just buying Saphira. The best thing is that these babies are worth every penny spent!!!:) Congratulations on your new baby and enjoy:D |
I own five and last week spent $600 on unexpected veteraniary care of two.... |
Save, Save, Save Congrats on your new baby! I am not trying to scare you or to be negative. I am only trying to give advice. A puppy is almost like a child. Actually they can be more expensive in some cases. There are alot of costs associated with having them in your family, and getting a payday loan is the wrong way to start out. Those type of loans are set up to be a never ending pit fall. Please be cautious. I spend at least $500.00 a month on my babies, but I have 6. Their foods (because they all cant eat the same thing), Their Frontline and Heart worm Meds, Troubles medication for his skin condition, Their treats and toys, and grooming. This doesn't include their rountine check ups and when they are sick. Its pretty much routine to spend $400.00 each time I walk through the door at my vets office. (I think they see me coming)... Actually just last month I took Trouble and Pee Wee for their yearly check up and shots. Trouble had an ear infection, they both got nails and potty patches trimed. No bath or any other trimming and it was $435.00. This included Troubles antibotics and the stuff for his skin though. I know that there is a huge difference between having one and having six, but please know that with these great little souls come great responsibilities and sometimes great expenses, but in the end they are worth every penny just like my child is. Good luck with your new baby:) |
Congrats on your puppy. I spend too much on my two furbabies, LOL. Vaccinations, spay/neuter, teeth removal, microchipping, food, treats and more and more toys......:D:D:D:D |
I do think that Yorkies are an expensive breed to own! That's part of my concern when someone is looking to just try and find a "cheap" Yorkie to purchase! I'm not sure they are considering the future costs to raise them! Food, vet bills, grooming, medication, etc.. not to mention if they have health issues to being a "cheap" dog. I do think when people are researching what type of breed to get, they take all that into consideration! |
I only have 1 and I spent FAR too much. lol. If I just bought him the necessities, it wouldn't be *that* bad. But he gets a new toy like every week (sometimes more), bully sticks every week, treats, hoodies/jackets, multiple harnesses, LOL... ya know, all those types of things. I've gotten better at spending on him though. Grooming is $50 plus tip every 8 weeks or so. But he came up limping a few months ago, it ended up being an over $300 vet visit on x-rays etc to find out he had lymes disease. Things like that are expensive. But I think you just do what ya have to do for your pup! :) |
I spend way too much spoiling them and then every time I am trying to be good and not buy them anything, then we end up having to go to the vet for some reason. These little guys really know how to get to your pocketbooks. |
I spend too much. My girlfriend also took my little guy to the pet ER when he didn't really need to go. Aside from stuff like that, I don't think it's too bad. I did get an insurance policy on the little guy with a relatively high deductible. The payments aren't too bad, and if I have to spend some big bucks at the vet for any reason I'm covered and shouldn't have to think about it. |
I've given the same vet care for my cattle dog as I do Bella. Now when it comes to shopping not good. Went to Petco yesterday for shampoo and walked out with two dresses and spent 40.00 dollars. Got to check in on patterns. Might be cheaper to make her clothes. LOL Well...she does have a grooming appt Mon. But that is 28.00 dollars. Last time she went was Oct. I guess it's not to bad. |
It never ends. Every week I'm in the pet store and I don't walk out without spending at least $35.00 on treats or toothpaste and food etc. New sweaters this past winter and a new vest came to $120.00. I just, once again., switched his harness and wanted two so that came to $46.00. Just hired a trainer as well another $400.00 plus classes next month, add another $300.00. Yearly coming up in May, add $375.00, shots needed I'm sure. It never ends but hey, it's a responsiblity, no different than raising a child. I groom him, however, I had to purchase the supplies. $135.00 for the grooming table plus clippers, $120.00. You have to expect it. Yorkies are expensive little critter's for sure but so very enjoyable and worth every cent. IMO. Good luck, |
I spent a lot preparing for her before she came home ;) I had to have most of the things I know I would need, but now I need some more things...LOL Cerise is getting spayed on April 2nd and having teeth removed, plus microchip, Sentinel, health insurance, and I want a carrying bag for her too because we go out and about A LOT every weekend. I realized she will be needing things and I will be WANTING things for her (and myself) forever :D But I will try my best to stay within my means  Thank goodness I can sew...LOL Just like having a child, having a Yorkie (or any breed) is a serious financial responsibility. Especially if you have a shopping, traveling, being with you most of the time road dog :) I won't even mention emergency vet trips one could have in the future because that is the needed, but not fun part of being a furbaby's parent. |
Forgot to mention that I flew to pick her up and we flew back together. We will be flying at least two more times this year. So that is another expense but well worth it. |
I enjoy spending on her. She has more clothes than I do. Well, almost...:D We just had her teeth cleaned yesterday. You always want to stay on top of health matters. Then there are the occasional emergencies. That is something you hope you never have, but it does happen. For instance, on Thanksgiving Day afternoon, 2008, Kacee was running like a maniac in her yard and turned really fast and went down. She had torn her right rear knee ligaments completely in two just from turning wrong at too fast of a speed. So, to the surgeon she went and after 8 weeks she was healed. You just never know. It's just like having a kid!:D |
I spend a lot on my girls but I look at it this way.......They are my best friends and they are loyal and true blue and they are worth so much more than money could ever buy. If I spend money on them then I am not shopping as much for myself;) |
