Attention seeking behavior? I have a 2 year old pup, Callie. She may be considered to be on the "yippy side". She will bark at the tv, other dogs outside, etc. Nothing too excessive I guess. As of lately I have noticed an annoying attribute of this yippiness. Everytime my boyfriend and I hug or anything, she will bark and whine like crazy. I don't know what to do to get her out of this, I will scold her as I do with any behavior I don't want her to continue with but it's not working. Anytime I go in for the hug, she goes crazy. Any words of wisdom? |
I have a similar problem with my Betty Boop. I am not allowed to talk on the phone! She just can't stand it! She starts jumping on me, nibbling my legs, and barking. She also does this when she wants to play and is trying to get my attention. I don't have any suggestions on how to break this bad habit. Hopefully, someone here can come up with a brilliant suggestion for us both! A trainer at our local PetSmart told me that when dogs show aggressiveness towards you, they are trying to be the "leader of the pack", just as they do when they are still with their litter mates. They are showing dominance "because they can get away with it". She doesn't do this with my husband. Guess I'm just a pushover! The trainer said that when the dog barks and nips you, say "ouch!" and turn away and exit the room for a few minutes. Might be a good idea, but it didn't work for me. I just gave up and am enjoying playing with her and giving her the attention she craves. |
