My heart goes out to you and your family hugs to all of you |
So sorry for your loss, I can't even begin to imagine what you're dealing with. Its a very tragic way to lose your baby. I pray that God strengthens and heals you & your family's hearts as you get thru this difficult time. |
Thanks to all for your kind words and prayers. We are back at work and school today. I'm hoping that getting back into our daily routine will help all of us start feeling better. I am going to the court house today to file suit against the owner of the property and the owner of the dog. My father in law is a judge here in our town and he will be advising me on the best way to legally handle things. Thanks again to my YT family for being there during this sad time. |
Oh my goodness!! That is sooo heartbreaking!! My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. My daughter recently shared a story about her husband's cousin who had stopped into her mother's house while out running errands. One of her young children needed to go to the bathroom. They were nearby so they popped into grandma's. I'm not sure exactly what transpired but their pittbull attacked both the children ages, 2 and 5. They were both in critical condition. The last I heard one child was released from the hospital.. not sure how the other one is doing. This happened in Michigan. A few weeks ago a small child was killed here in Fl. Something needs to be done about these dogs. Their owners defend them and of course their dog would never do such a thing. I don't think they are worth taking the chance with. They should be outlawed. I'm so sad for you.. what you and your family have had to go through was so unfair. I hope something is done so that no one will ever have to experience the heartbreak you have had to endure. Once is bad enough... but twice?? Maybe you and your family are supposed to take up a cause involving pittbulls? Maybe this is your mantle?? |
I'm so sorry for your loss. It seems this happens entirely too many times to our small dogs. I pray you find peace and justice for your little one. I think that people who own Pitbulls should take the time to make sure they are properly trained and socialized. All too many times, it seems to me that all the wrong people own these kind of dogs. Young teen-agers who know nothing about how to train or handle a large/strong animal . . . .people who do not take the time to exercise them as needed . . . I see it everyday in my town. I blame the owners who do not properly train or restrain; I hope that the appropriate action is taken against this dog owner. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I worry about that all the time. Sam is the smallest dog on our block, most are boxers but this is a really aggressive german shepard that freaks me out. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Kristy and Sam |
I am so sorry for your loss but my heart is really aching for your 14 yr old. I had a similar experience when I was 12 (I'm 28 now). My dog got killed and I felt like it was my fault; however, it was by a car and not by a pitbull. Unfortunately, I saw the whole thing happen and was really traumatized by it for a long time. I wish I could give some great advice on how to help her but I don't :( Just give her lots of attention and do things to keep her mind off it if possible. Again, I'm so so sorry for your family's loss. |
I am so sorry..:(.. I will keep your family in my thougths and prayers... R.I.P.. sweet Davinci |
I am *so* sorry for your loss. How devastating. I can't even imagine. My heart goes out to you. Quote:

I can't even begin to imagine the pain you and your family must be feeling. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayer's. R.I.P. DiVinci. I am so very sorry for your loss. I feel anger. The son sounds like an immature, uncaring, irresponsible excuse for a human being. Loosing two dogs this way and because of the same person is not to be believed. I hope you get justice, whatever that is. Accidents happen but IMO this was not an accident but a tragedy waiting to happen. Hugs to all of you, |
I'm sorry, but outlawing a breed shouldn't happen, IMO. Irresponsible PEOPLE created these dogs in the first place and irresponsible owners handle these dogs. If you are not a mentally strong willed person, or willing to train such a strong breed, then terrible tragedy's such as these happen. Humans need to step up to the plate before banishing someone's beloved pet. Pit's are actually wonderful family dogs. I don't own a Pit, but I feel like someone needs to speak for them as well. I don't like blaming a breed.[/QUOTE] This is devastating and has brought tears to my eyes. Condolences to your family. RIP Davinci & Coco. Brister is right about not blaming the breed. It is the fault of irresponsible owners. Obviously, there is a pattern here with this being the second attack with the same people yet different dog. You have to look at the owners! |

 I completely agree... humans are to blame for these tragic situations. |
Let me just say that even though I am grieving Davinci's loss, I also don't necessarily blame the Pit bull breed. What I do know is that here in rural South MS, pit bulls are breed indiscrimately by the hundreds. Many of them are inbred, untrained, killing machines in the hands of very ignorant, uncaring owners. We have NO Animal control in our small town, except for the Sheriff and Police officers. Very little is done about abused and neglected dogs because we don't have the laws or the man power to do anything here. The 2 dogs that killed Davinci were purchased by a young (20 ish) man that has a rapsheet a mile long and a history of jail time, for a very low amount of money (he doesn't have a job, so can't have much money). I'm sure that both were probably born in the poorest of living conditions to a mother that was probably abused and mistreated her whole life. They were bought as trophies to make him look "tough" with no thought given to training or proper care and control of the dogs. Putting the first one to sleep I'm sure did not even cause him to shed a tear, just like losing this one will not. I believe that a nation wide law should be passed that requires a yearly license of $500 per pit bull dog, with a limit of one per person. I also believe that pitbulls should be required to be spayed or neutered before the age of 6 months or they should be confiscated from the owner. I also believe that show breeders that are then allowed to breed must complete rigourous home checks before a puppy can be placed with a family. While pit bulls are not the only dangerous dogs out there, I firmly believe that due to the fact that they breed and whelp so easily, often producing large litters, that serious controls must be put in place to try to help control the problems that these dogs are causing. Just last month a 5 year old little girl was killed by a pitbull in Jackson MS when she went outside her home to play in the snow. Too many people and beloved family pets are losing their lives to this one breed. Something has to be done to ensure that they are not forced into extinction but owned by responsible people. |

Way to go  Sometimes we have to go to extremes to keep our babies safe from other less responsible pet owners vicious pets. But we gotta do what we gotta do. I am very sorry for your loss. |
I am so terribly sorry for your loss. :( I can\'t even begin to imagine how devastated you and your children are. I agree with your proposed ideas on pit bull ownership. Have you pitched this idea to lawmakers? I too live in south Mississippi, and also heard about the little girl in Jackson. My heart goes out to you. |
