Honking noise when excited? Does anyone know what it means if your yorkie makes a honking noise when he gets excited like when I come home? I hope its not serious? |
I hope he is okay :) My yorkie did that for only a week and I posted about it on here because I was really worried to. Some people suggested it may be "reverse sneezing". I did a google search on it. And you can do a search on this forum. My yorkie hasnt made that noise in a long time though. |
My girl does that too sometimes, especially when she's excited.... I think this is common in Yorkies.... it comes and goes.. |
Hmmmm, Schatzie has never done this. She normally does her "happy bark" when I come home. |
Princess never did, but Poncho my Chihuahua, the first time scared me, I took him to the vet, they gave him a clean bill of health, and said it was just him being excited. :) |

max does that all the time when he gets really excited! i have heard about the reverse sneezing too. my vet says not to worry about it as long as he is breathing fine. |
My Mickey does this some times too. I always hold my fingers over his nose for a second and rub his throat. as soon as he swollows once or twice he stops. It only takes a sec to do. Mickey is so use to me doing it that he comes to me for help as soon as he starts. |
Mention it to the vet the next time you go, may want to have trachea checked to be sure no problem. In the meantime... best to use a harness not a collar. |
I used to have a chihuahua that did that a lot and that was usually when I came home, so I always tried to downplay my arrival with her. Muffin did it very seldom. When you come home, don't make a big deal of your arrival and try to be calm so she won't get overexcited - if that's possible. :D |
we hold the nose and rub the throat too on Bentley and it works. we only use harnesses on all of our dogs. you probably have nothing to worry about but if it continues you'll probably want to call your vet just to get him checked out and be sure it isn't serious. |
Stewie does it everyday when he's excited! Its not serious. I actually think its really funny. Is that mean of me? |

oh I didn't mean we laugh histerically (sp?) when he does it...it's just that he's usually running around in circles and peeing when he does it and it's usually when we come in from somewhere because he's so excited to see us and it only last a few seconds. i guess we are just so used to it we aren't concerned anymore about a health issue. |
