I have a weird question I have taken in a 13 year old male and he has started to use the potty pads. I have noticed his urine smells so much stronger than my 2 females that use the pads. I am going to have his blood work done soon to see where we are at with his kidney and liver functions and general health but wondered if there is a difference because he is a male. He is neutered, not sure when as he was found on the streets 2 years ago. Thanks |
Idk but i have a question-- how did you make him consistantly use the pee pads? Castor Pollux uses them except if I go in the bathroom to use my toilet, he pees on the rug. Sorry I'm not any help :( |
Patti, was he eating a different food than what you have the girls on? I've noticed the urine smell changes based on what food in the rotation we're on, but not drastically. Otherwise, I have no idea - sorry. |
How was his age figured out? I also noticed change when there is a change of food... which may certainly be the case . hope he is all good ! XOXO |

Are all of your girls spayed, Patti? I noticed a big difference in Murfee's urine when the girls came in heat, it was definitely skunk like, but on a normal day he had no more smell than they did. |
Thanks. No he was eating the same food as mine and my girls are all spayed. His age was determined by a vet and the rescue by his teeth and his eyes are clouded. It is just a guess though. He jumps really well but sleeps all the time. He goes outside but I noticed he will use the pads when he wants to. My Pixie won't use the pads but goes outsidemand when she feels like it uses the bathroom rug. So I have no advice on how to train!!lol |
Hummm... I have no other words of wisdom then... an older guy ... just glad he found a great home ! ;) Hopefully after the blood work the vet will be able to give you an answer . Crossing my fingers for him ! XOXo |
Does he drink less water maybe? |
Unneutered males have a much stronger odor, but neutered males should be the same as a female. I would definitely ask the vet about this. |
