Stairs? Today is day five with our little fur ball - we are having a ton of fun :) Do I need to get a gate for the top of our stairs (they are open without a door)...just wondering if he is likely to fall down stairs? Sandy |
I guess he could, but ours will not go down the basement stairs and he is almost 6 months old....funny though they don't have carpet on them and we went to my daughter's house and he ran right up and down hers with carpet...but if yours is that little i would not take the chance. good luck they are so fun... |
I would. It is better to be safe than sorry. They are so fearless! Congrats on your new fur baby:D |
I would definitely advise gating it off. When Hot Rod was a baby he had the run of the downstairs, at first, and I went into the other room and all of a sudden I heard a thud and a yelp. The only thing that I cant think of is that he fell trying to go up the stairs. :( He was about 18 weeks old at the time and under 2 lbs. He is now 2 1/2 and is really just getting confidence in going up and down stairs and mind you, I follow him up with open arms and I walk down in front of him ready to catch him. I have hardwood stair without any type of covering on them. We now have 2 baby gates tied up into a "C" shape at the bottom of the stairs to keep both of them off the stairs. Maggie has never been afraid of stairs and just bounds up and down! She is going to be 2. :) BTW, congrats on you new baby! :) |
I would, just to be cautious. They have these 18 inch gates that are really easy to step over because they're short and they have a little door in them for the pups to get through so you don't have to lift them over. They're at PetSmart. (We had to get these because we're both short- I'm 5 feet- and baby gates hurt your crotch to get over lol:p) |

One of my girls fell on the stairs , already a "pro" at 10 months old, broke her leg and required a surgery ... we now keep gates on all of our stairs. We learned our lesson... I spent about 2 grand for her surgery ... but could have been prevented. I now keep the gates up permanently and keep a closed eye on them when going up or down stairs... blessings on your new family addition ! XOXO |
Congrats on your new furbaby :) Sandy's a pro climbing the stairs when he was 4 months old but he's still very afraid of walking down the stairs. When I saw him at the stairs looking at me proudly, my heart stopped for a second  I say keep the gate up to be safe. Yorkies are fearless little cuties. |
