Reesie is such a stinker!!!
 
Reesie is 7 months old. He has always been pretty obedient. But lately he has been a real stinker, especially outside. He has been trying to eat his poop and rabbit's poop. We have been working on stopping this. Yesterday he was trying to eat some rabbit poop so I went over and stood on the rabbit poop so he could not get to it. (I didn't have anything to pick it up with.) Anyway he started getting all crazy and running around me and growling at me. I tried to bend down and pick him up but he kept running from me. As soon as I stepped off the spot he ran over and grabbed as much rabbit poop as he could and ran away to eat it. I could not catch him. Then he would come back and I was on the spot again and he would do the same growling all over again. What is going on with him? He is going wild outside. Once he comes in he knows he is doing wrong and will slink around and sulk for a few minutes, like he is in time out or something. :(:( Any suggestions?:confused:

Sorry no suggestions but I too go through this with my Pebbles she loves rabbit poop. Last summer it was a constant battle I not only had to pick up after my dogs I also had to pick up rabbit poop so Pebbles would not eat it. She still found rabbit poop even after I thought I had picked it all up, because the rabbit poop it just small ball it manages to work it self between the grass blades where I do not see it but she finds it and has a feast. YUCK!!

I understand the attraction to the poop (as gross as it is!). They are attracted to the unbroken down protein. I just don't understand his growling at me and why he is getting all crazy outside. Is it an age thing?:confused:

My little one loves to eat deer poop and acts the same when I get after him.
The only way I have been able to stop this is taking him out on a leash every time. He caught on to doing his business on a leash very quickly.

I was thinking I would have to start using the leash again.:( I hate to do that to him. He likes to run and play outside, but I don't know what else to do.

Adolescence Age
 
Hi,

I'm not sure if this will help but probably will clarify the behavior. I was reading a book "Good owner, Great Dog" it says there that 6-12 months for small dog is adolescence age. So during those age it's possible that your dog is very obedient and good with all his/her tricks and the next day when you tell him to do something he will look at you as if he doesn't understand what you're saying.

The book suggest that you keep repeating all the commands everyday and do lots of "down" commands. Unfortunately there is no specific time length for the adolescence period since it varied by each dog and can last up to 2 years old :eek:.

As for poop eating, I asked my vet one time and he suggest a powder called "For-Bid". I haven't tried them since my puppy only becomes a poo eater randomly (no pattern, but about once a month). This powder only works for his own poop, but he says it might make him get a bad impression for other poops as well.

Since we are on this topic, the other day Rocks came in and I picked him up right away to hug him. Before I hugged him I saw a black shiny ball stuck to his chin hair. I got grossed out and yelled for my husband, thinking it was deer poo. So there I am standing in the bathroom yelling at my DH to get the poo off. He comes running in to save the day to find a roly Poly stuck to Rocks chin. Guess eating roly polys is not as bad as poo!

Wow! He could act like this for 2 years! Yikes! :eek: Good to know! Thanks!:)

LOL too funny....I would of done the same thing, my poor hubby always has to come to the resue too...lol..lol..

I don't know anything about them eating poop! thank God..I wouldn't do go with that..lol...
