Dilemma, Bailey and my babysitting, I need opinions please. Okay, Bailey is not use to being around very small children, I don't have any at all, and my friends kids are mainly grown. My cousin adopted a baby but she is going back to work late April and cannot find a babysitter, it is for 4 hrs a day. I told her if she was truly stuck I would watch her daughter who will be around 10 or 11 months. My concern now is Bailey, he loves adults, and he will probably love babies, but I am scared he could get hurt with such a small child. I don't want to be on edge every minute I have the baby with me, Do you think at that age she is to young to go after Bailey? Sorry, I probably sound nuts, I am not use to little babies and their behaviour at that age towards animals. |
The baby will be crawling at the age, and also trying to walk. I would have my cousin bring the baby over a few times so Bailey could get used to being around a new baby. You will have to supervise no matter what, as he could hurt the baby and the baby could hurt him. Good Luck!:) |
Biggest thing I'd worry about with a baby that age isn't so much chasing Bailey, more the baby grabbing a handful of hair or an ear and pulling too hard or slapping at him trying to pet him. I'd just make sure that Bailey stays out of arms reach until he gets used to the baby and your friend's baby learns that it's ok to look at the doggie and give gentle pats but no hair pulling. Your attitude will help also. If you're relaxed about the baby being in the house then Bailey will be. It might help to have your friend visit once in a while with the baby so that if you do end up babysitting then Bailey will know them and be used to having the baby around. Kids should be taught from an early age how to act around dogs and sadly, seems like a lot or parents these days drop the ball on that. You would be doing the baby a great service by teaching her how to treat Bailey and animals in general. I say go for it. |
Thanks so much, Yes I will just have to watch them both very closely, at least she can't chase him! |
