Standing Ears- When should they start standing? OK so I have been wondering this and I thinking about when should my puppy's ears should start standing, he will be 11 weeks on thrus, and just wondering when and if I should tape them. and how do I do it? |
you can start by shaving the top 1/3 or half of the ears...and massaging them daily...to get the blood flowing to it...and you can also tape them...tape for 3 days...take off and if one or both falls take them again for another day...and then take off...repeat...hope that helps |

I begin shaving puppy ears on both sides, all the way down at a week of age and shaving every week, keeping the weight off the ear and getting them use to the vibration and eventually the sound of the trimmer. If by the 6th week they aren't standing on their own I begin taping. Someone has already recommended a great site for taping ears. Every breeder has an arsenal of methods on how to do it and will to resort to all of them on stubborn ears. |

Exactly...we taped our pups ears but only for a few days...we just kept them shaved. That alone made them stand :) |
Joey's ears didn't stand until he was 15 weeks old. The breeder had been taping them, you could tell they had just removed the tape when I got him, the next day they fell. I retaped them and took the tape off the 3rd day and they were standing, the next morning one was standing and one fell, that afternoon they both fell. I taped this poor puppies ears for 3 weeks... Only leaving them up for 3 days at a time. then would untape for at least 1.5 days to let them breath. Then I started having to run tape from one ear to the other to keep them standing, because they were getting bigger and heavier. My family started calling him blue, because all I had was the blue painters tape. The directions I used said you take a piece of the tape and cut it into a triangle that fits the inside of the ear. I used 3 layers to give it more support..After 3 weeks of doing this I gave up and decided to just accept Joey was going to be a flopear.... The next day those darn ears was standing straight up, they would fall when he would get tired but after a good nights rest they would be standing the next morning... Good Luck to you. And I also would give him a teaspoon of cottage cheese with his food. I have also read that you could give a teaspoon of plain yogurt.. You might want to check with your vet for their opinion on this...as I have been told dairy products are not good for the Yorkie breed... |

I really recommend the Whal Peanut. This little trimmer really does the job very good and is so extremely safe. It does a precision job without razor burn. |

If you tape.....leave them up 5 days, take down and leave them untaped for 2 days. Constantly checking the ear canals for possible infection. After the tape is taken off, bathe your pup, and make sure you use an ear cleaner with a drying agent......After drying I follow up with a triple antibiotic on the ear leathers. |
