Ideas to build confidence in a submissive female... Bella is the most wonderful, loving and beautiful dog however she suffers terribly from submissive urination. We've researched and researched and thanks to this site have implemented many practices in our home that have helped the situation but haven't cured it. We got Bella when she was 6 months old and we're not aware of any abuse in her past at all. She came from a loving home from what we know. She's now 10 months old. So, I'm on to the next approach; building confidence in Bella so she feels secure and brave. Some of the practices we've implemented are being watchful of bending over her and not patting her on the head etc. Do you have some ideas on how to build confidence that have worked for your beloved pets? Right now Bella wears panties pretty much all day long because the submissive urination is really fairly regular. She immediately rolls to her back at the drop of a hat. We love her so much and want her to feel confident. I'm going to make a list of things we can do and put it on the refrigerator for the family to practice. Thank you! |
There has been quite a discussion of this over the years. Do a search of "submissive urination" on YT and on Google and you should find some good help. I did find this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ve-peeing.html |

Yup been there. Being calm around her helps, no excitement. You can build confidence by teaching them commands, give her a job to do and reward her for doin it. Basic ones I do with Roxy are "sit" and " give mommy a kiss" there is a book: help for your shy dog |
By reading these links it does appear that we are doing the right things for her. Perhaps we just let her grow out of this stage and practice patience. I think I was looking for a miracle! |
