How did you get your dog to accept wearing bows and/or clothes?
 

I'm full of questions this evening...;)

Our 16 week old puppy Natalie doesn't like anything on her. When we put her sweater on her, she promptly sat down and refused to move. This is our puppy who is usually jet-propelled. We're now referring to it as the 'immobilzer'.:D

It's finally warmed up enough that we put her harness on her, hooked her to the leash and took her outside for the first time. It was so funny the way she was walking- spreading her legs real wide like she didn't like the feel of it touching her. I got smart and brought a handful of treats with me, so while my daughter held the leash I would walk a few feet in front of her and entice her to come with a treat.

These first two things could probably be resolved with patience- letting her experience each thing for brief periods of time, building up longer and longer along with lots of treats. She does love her treats. :)

The last one is tougher- she doesn't like anything in her hair. The hair on her face is getting long and grows all helter-skelter. I don't know how she can see through it. We've tried ponytails and little clips but she freaks out and immediately begins pawing at them and acting frantic until we remove them. I don't want to cut her hair short, but it must be awful trying to look out through that veil of fur! I've tried brushing it. It stays back from her eyes about a minute then springs back into place obscuring her vision. How do you get your dog to tolerate having something in their hair??:confused:

Don't stop trying, then she will eventually adjust to it. My yorkie hated it too, he would bite it. Now, he accepts it. haha. Especially, right now during cold weather, they will appreciate it when they realize it keeps them warm. =) I'm not so sure about the bows though, I haven't accomplished that one yet. They paw it off...=___=

For me, it was just a matter of keeping on trying until they are used to it. Sophie has only just now gotten to where she will let me keep her hair up during the day. She'll only paw at it a little. I use either bands or barrettes during the day, but no bows unless we go out. For the bows, she doesn't mind them if we go out. I think she knows she's getting to go somewhere. For clothes, she never really had a problem with them. When we first brought her home, we got her a small sweater and she would wear it around the house during the day and that helped get her used to it. She never really fought me on her harness, so I don't know how to help you there. She loves it, actually, since she knows she gets to go outs.:)

I would keep putting her hair up. Jack's hair is long and in his eyes too. I put it up - he hates it. But I have been desensitizing him by playing with his hair and putting it up for brief periods of time throughout the day. Good luck!

My dogs eventually gave up. I would reward them for leaving the bow alone. When I would put the bows in, and they tried to paw at them or rub their faces on their bed to try to get it out, I'd lure them over with tidbits of white meat chicken and get their attention. Whenever they left it alone, I would reward them. Teddy can't stand bows, he goes cross-eyed trying to look for it but he too accepts it and forgets about it for something to eat.
