Hygeine issue We love everything about our new puppy Natalie. Except for the fact that just a few days after a bath she starts smelling like urine. She is pee pad trained and is very good about using them (so the problem is not that she's soiling in her crate then having to sit in it or anything like that). Like any little girl she squats to pee and I think the problem comes from a combo of her being so little, furry and just general anatomy. I think as she's going, through no fault of her own, she's getting her underbelly and even the insides of her back legs wet. It's not practical (nor probably advisable) to bathe her every 3 or 4 days. Anyone else have this problem? How did you solve it? Thanks! |
We use baby wipes - generic ones from Wal-Mart. Good luck! |
Baby wipes are a yorkie owners best friend! or a warm washcloth--fresh each time, if you have enviromental concerns. |
Thanks! I'll get some baby-wipes and try those. We love our girl, but it's no fun to snuggle a pee-pee smelling furbutt! |
Same here with my girl and I use baby-wipes as well. Only I use hypoallergenic and I alternate between a clean, white, soft, warm towel and the wipe. My girl is very sensitive there. I put them both in the microwave for a few seconds for warmth (the cloth or wipe, I mean) and clean her up very gently :animal-pa |
we frequently shave that area and keep it short..plus wipes are a miracle. |

We keep the area shaved |
Kimbo is potty pad trained and every 3 or so days I notice that his paws smell a little like urine. I just fill the kitchen sink with an inch of warm water and a squirt of his shampoo and let him walk around in there for a few minutes. That usually does the trick. |

we shave his belly and i use scissors on his butt area and face. he gets a bath every 2 weeks in the sink. (very cold here for weekly baths) about every 3-4 months he gets a professional grooming. i try to stretch it out for financial reasons..plus he gets really nervous. he always looks and smells clean. |
I use the wipes every time I notice wet paw prints on the floor when they walk away from the potty pad. I also use the wipes to get out any left over waste stuck in their fur from time to time. Additionally I use John Paul Pet waterless shampoo on paws, beard and hiney each morning with our grooming routine. |

Thanks everyone for your advice and replies. I picked some baby wipes up tonight so we will start using those. Going to talk to dh about getting some clippers and attempting to do some trimming ourselves. I will look into the no rinse cleaning product. Sounds good! |
