How long (time wise) did it take to pottytrain!? So we're working on potty training still! Sadie has done pretty well, she's pretty much fully potty trained for peeing outside, but we're still having troubles with pooping in the house. Especially what with her having stomach bacteria twice which caused her to have diarrhea, then her spay in the middle of a snow storm so she couldn't go outside and get her stiches wet...and it just keeps snowing!! Then we moved, and now it's snowing more again. She's being a trooper on pottying out in the cold and snow, but having poop troubles again. How long does it really take for them to fully train if ever? What else can I do but continue to take her outside regularly? Will she get it finally do you guys think? Advice and encouragement needed. |
I will pick up my puppy soon and i will need to perfect on the potty training . I need to follow this closely. Hope a lot of people answer :rolleyes: |
what's worked so far has been bell training. we use a service bell from office max, she does use it for peeing almost every single time. and sometimes she'll use it for pooping too, but other times she doesn't. i have the book house training for dummies. it helped a lot, but yorkies are notouriously hard to train, my aunt's did fine in 2-3 months, but mine's taking a lot longer :( |
Well, I still call Jackson 99.9% potty trained. He's just a little over 1 year old. He's really good at telling me (barking) at the door when he needs to go but he will have an occasional accident that is typically my fault. Probably has 1 poop accident a month. They're pretty much always because I simply wasn't paying attention to him good enough, so other than that, he's really good. He's totally outdoor trained. |
Sweet Pea is 1yr and i thought she was doing well with puppy pad training, some days she will pee/poop on it then another day she will go on the carpet. I'm very lucky that i'm home all day so i would "watch" her all the time. Don't know if she will ever be "fully" trained...sigh... |
It took me about 2 weeks to potty train Louis. (He was completely potty trained by the time he was 16 weeks old.) I never used pee pads, he only goes outside.You just have to be consistent. I took Louis outside about every half hour. If I wasn't able to watch Louis, I would put him in the crate. Notice for any signs of "sniffing around" and take her out immediately. Also give lots of praise and treats worked well too! Hope this helps!:) Oh ya, and it also takes lots and lots of patience!:D |
My experience has always been that you can't let a dog who's not fully trained roam free in the house unless very carefully supervised. Crate or at least confine her to a limited (preferably non-carpeted area) when you can't give her your full attention. It's a lot easier to put the time in up front and get your dog trained than to try and correct mistakes after they've happened. Once the scent gets in anything- your carpet, etc.- it's natural for them to want to return to it. Good luck! |
