Very cute... Just curious, how old is Peanut? I just went yesterday and got some Cosequin for Harley...just as a preventative right now. But I'm glad that your's is doing better on it. Hopefully it'll work for us too :) |

Did you experience these noises with Peanut before the limping began? |

Oh I am sorry, I didn't know Harley was a girl!! hehe That is even cuter! I love the name esp for a girl, hehe  Anyways, you know Peanut didn't have any noises, he was just limping.. when I say limping I mean while he walks he would lift his back leg up and down randomly. I went without taking him to the vet for about 6 months, I just thought it was some strange quirk he had.. Then he was doing it more and more, so I took him in and the vet said he did have LP in both BACK KNEES!! :thumbdown He said he was a grade 1-2 and to start him on the Cosequin and a Vitamin, and Omega 3 & 6. He said as long as I did that and kept his weight where it is at (4 lbs) he doesn't see SX in his furture... Oh he also said not to let him jump ( as much as I could) and limit his walking time. Like 15-20 mins. I believe with Yt'er Capt_noonie's, her baby Uni did have some "cracking" noises...You might want to ask her to confirm, but I believe she had told me Uni's knees did crack.. If you are hearing those noises I would def start her on the Cosequin. I would get her in the Vet so he can palpate her knees and confirm that it is LP. Then he will be able to tell you what stage she is at too. Does she limp at all?? I personaly wouldn't wait a couple months to take her in, I mean its not life threating, but I would take care of it as soon as you can. The vet also sent me home with some pain meds.. I only give that to him if I know he is going to be walking around a lot that day... Anyways let me know if you have any other questions.. I know a lot of Yter's babies have LP and I know of a couple that even had the SX so there is a lot of us on here that have exp in this!! |
Uni's knees pop, I can feel it, but I can't hear them pop. She lifted her leg back in July after jumping around in the sand and waves at the beach. She hasn't lifted since then, but i still keep her on cosequin bc I still feel her knees crack. |
Hi Ladies ~ just getting back to this thread.... Thanks for the info. So far, I haven't noticed Harley in any pain...or limping. In fact, she hasn't slowed down one bit!! Still flying and sliding all over the dern house :p The cracking noise is the only thing I've noticed. It does seem to be getting more frequent, every time she moves or gets up from a resting position. Heck, my knees makes noises too after sitting on the floor for long amounts of time, but completely different I realize...haha. I'm due for some flea meds so I think I will take her into the vet just to be on the safe side. IF, God forbid, it's headed in that direction, I'd rather catch it early on. In the mean time, I'm giving her 1/2 tablet of Cosequin each day. Haven't noticed any improvement yet, but only had her on it for 2 weeks now...we shall see. |
