Marking on my thighs!! My yorkies just ABSOLUTELY HATE it when I clip their nails... I waited, waited, and now it's absolutely imperative that I start. I keep saying "it's okay" in a very soothing voice but they get jumpy. My girl's nail was JUST TOO LONG!!! In fact, I got SEVERAL lines marked on my thigh from her nails earlier trying to clip her nails. Any advice? I don't know if everyone bring their pups to professional grooming, but I prefer to do it myself since grooming costs are too expensive. |
try using a drill and see if that help? also if clipping i suggest doing it right after a bath because it soften the nail. also when you are in the process of clipping the nails are you nervous? because they can sense it. |

My vet's office will do it for $10 |
are you sure it was them who left the marks ? (don't ban me Admin ! I kept it clean :D ) |
ps - now that I posted - I thought of an alternative - have you tried having someone else do it ? My girls always act better when it's someone other than me doing nails.... I do my own but it takes whispering in their ears - holding them in a very comfortable position (for them) and doing a few at a time - it took a while but they quit acting like I was torturing them |
I gotta admit....I read "marking" and thought "peeing" :D |
I wrap Daisy up in a towel after bath time and let one paw at a time stick out so that I can clip the nails. This is the only method that works for me, because she REALLY doesn't like grooming of any sort! Gotta love that terrier personality! |

My Bentley is a BIG baby when it comes to his nails too. So I started the process with frequently handeling of his paws several times through the day with out the clippers. Then when he got use to this I clipped the majority of the excess off each nail. This was done in two seperate sittings, first with the front and then back nails. After that, I kept up the petting and handeling his paws. After a week I used the drill (pedi-paw) to get them finished. Now I make it a point to touch his feet frequently and he doesn't yelp anymore when I cut his nails. |
