Dear YTers, Never Give Out Rights to Your Photos This is just my opinion. If you give up your rights to photos, that is exactly what you get.....loss of your rights to your own photos. I never enter my adorable pups in contests because the small print always (that I have noticed) says you give up all your rights to the photo. Your dog's (or baby's) photo could become famous and you would have no rights to it. You could possibly be sued for using it yourself after you give up the rights to it. Also, if someone requests photos for their use, check them out first. You can always type in their username under Google and see what comes up. Look for a bridge before you try jumping the creek. |
GREAT ADVISE !! I know someone who was contacted after a Breeder was using her photo on her website to sell puppies - It's WRONG ....while our photos are easily copied - DO NOT give up your rights and sign away any leverage you have in case they are used in an UN professional manner or stolen - they could end up on ANY kind of site !! |
While I agree with you that some people can be real jerks and do things like that but I have to defend myself.. Not sure if your post is directed at mine or not. I am simply (and yes this info can be verified) a 15 year old girl who thinks she might be able to raise money for animal charity. The contract I created in response to these types of things clearly states that you are giving me permission to use the photo and that I cannot use it for anything otherwise and that it is YOURS. I have no interest in making someones dog famous. I do however have an interest in making money for charity. I also am going to come back after the donations from this are made with pure positive proof I donated half the proceeds. Please, if you think I am lying email me, I will verify any information for you. foxontherun613@aim.com |

very good advice.... |
I agree 100 %. You can never trust people especially on the internet. So it is just not smart giving out information, photos, or anything that you want to stay yours! |
I appreciate the concern of everyone to be cautious, but I have feelings towards this also. In regards to foxontherun613 I feel right now she is doing everything right now to show her honesty by answering questions to all whom have posted on her thread, given her contract, etc. She as a young adult is showing a great deal of responsiblity and respect by what she is doing. I myself feel she is trying to do a great thing here and want to commend her. I personally do not automaticaly try to not trust people, but give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. I am not saying this towards any certain thread or member at all. All I am is saying is that I feel trusting but being cautious at the same time opens up many doors of opportunity for great things in life. Yes, I also agree with Julz in that by being cautious and make sure you know or atleast try to be informed with pictures. Also, all us members post our babies pictures all the time on YT. Who's to say that someone can't take/steal those photo's and miss-use them?? |

All of us members here on YT are on the internet.... By saying "You can never trust people especially on the internet" can possibly be taken very personal by some members here? Yes be cautious w/ personal information, photos, etc...But try to remember that I believe many of us have made great friends, etc by "trusting people especially on the internet". |
I agree with you totally about most of us being trustworthy. I really do....I think this thread is just reminding people to be safe and a little cautious... |
I have to tell you, it's not just the internet. I was looking at a "Penny Saver" paper here, just something that comes in the mail once a week. Anyway, there was this ad for pictures at a store. I looked at the ad, then took a second look. I showed it to my husband and told him that is our neice, he said no, it just looks like her, NOT, I bought the shirt she was wearing in the picture, I went and found the "SCHOOL" picture she gave me a few years ago, and it was the same. I called my sister, and we went to the store, My neices picture was plastered all over the store. Was my sister mad!!! They never asked if they could use that print. They waited three years later to use it. And it was a School picture that was used. The store offered her free pictures, she said no, and made them take all the pictures of her daughter down. |
