Need advice My Yorkie passed a month ago, and I have another dog that is not very well. Both are/were very old. I want to adopt another. Should I go ahead and adopt, or wait? I am sure the survivor is lonely, but, I don't want to adopt a dog who would also be left alone soon enough. Hate to sound so blunt, but I don't think she has long left. |
Because your remaining dog is very old and not in good health,I would wait until she passes on.A new puppy could stress her too much and she needs your full attention right now. I'm so sorry you've lost one friend and may soon lose the other.I still remember the loss of my first dog ,it was very hard and that was 25 years ago ! Eileen |
Sorry a new friend may keep he/she happy for a long time |
I agree with Micah My Love. My brother in law has an old golden retriever. When he was 9, they thought he was gonna pass any day. He could barely stand up. They were advised to go and get a puppy to cheer him up and they adopted a little mutt.. He is a mean old thing that bit me the first day I met him but he sure did love Zeus. They would run and play.. Today Zeus is 11 yrs old and once again coming close to death but he has really enjoyed to 2 extra years that mean old Murphy gave him.. I say follow your heart..You know what is best for you and your babies! Good Luck with your decision and sorry to hear about your loss.:( |

Thanks for the reply. I am not going to be getting a puppy, but a rescue dog. This may be blasphemy here, but, I am looking at a silky. My remaining dog is a dog that I rescued in 1995. She howls when I leave the house. She howls sometime at night when I go to bed. I don't want her to be alone, but I don't want to stress her either. |
I am sorry to hear about the passing of your baby. I think an older rescue silky would help your surviving dog grieve and you as well. Maybe you could find an older pair of Silkies that need to be rehomed together and then you would avoid getting into the same situation when your older baby passes. |
