Morkie talk & my experience w/ evil pet shop On Nov 15, 2009, I bought my yorkie from Animal Kingdom in Grover Beach, ca. He is joy on 4 legs, but also very, very loving. He was bought on impulse, and though I don’t regret, there are things I should have done differently # 1à not trusted the pet store personnel, and probably should have bought my furbaby from a house breeder. The employees seemed very helpful & nice. So that in combination with my inexperitice made me trust them completely. They required me to buy the food the puppy supposedly ate there & a rebound, I was incentived to but $300 in accessories to get a 10% off; I signed a dozen papers relying only on the girls good faith & her lecture of the main points on each document (my mistake, their dishonesty). Problems:confused:: the puppy was 9 weeks old, not 6 weeks like stated; he didn’t ate the adult dog food they made me purchase which clearly indicates he wasn’t really under that food; vomiting and constipation followed; later I noticed I wasn’t given a sales receipt; for those who red my previous post, I’m suspecting my puppy, now 4 months, is not a purebred yorkie.I acknowledged he wasn’t akc registered (reason why he was $200 off), but they insisted that wasn’t an indicator of anything & that he was purebred. I have fallen in love w/him I don’t intend on losing my… morkie?:aimeeyork I should add photos later. For now I can tell you he has gotten white hair on his head & 40% of whole body white instead of tan (little tan only on legs n hears). How much is a morkie? I know it’s difficult to place a monetary value, but the reality is people/shops sell them for profit & we as consumers have right to get what we paid for, in this case I think I will be asking for a reimbursement. For what reason would a breeder not register his litter/puppies? Is this an indicator of impure breed/mix? I appreciate your insights into my issue! :) |
Yorkie will break their color turning into grey then silver than white than tan...and being the age that your puppy is it would be safe to say that might be what is happening...the breaking of the color...but without seeing pictures of your puppy in person it isn't 100% sure if that is the case...hehe |
Well, all I can say is that lil pup in your avatar is absolutely adorable, and pretty much looks Yorkie to me. Show us more pics and we can guess if you want. Pet shops aren't a good place to buy dogs, but you didn't know that then. He is yours now, so no sense in worrying about it. xxmxaxrxyxx is right about Yorkie's breaking color, and it is a process that goes on for about 2 years. I have a pure AKC Yorkie that turned almost white as you described, but now her head is light tan and her back light silver/blue. I also have 3 Morkies, a light redish brown one and 2 champagne/apricot colored. Price difference.... well they are all priceless to me! (In Hawaii Morkies cost almost as much as Yorkies cause we have so few of each available, and it is ridiculous). Just enjoy him and spoil him! |
picture Here is a picture from December-- 3 months By now the head is whiter and more silver/white everywhere. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ictureid=83019 |

It appears that you posted in the Breeders section too, and are getting the same advice there. It takes 2 years for color to go thru changes, and he's doing it just like the rest. |
don't worry that's normal. in my eyes he looks pure. :) so adorable. My puppy is about 4 months too and he has lighter colors coming from his forehead also. His color is correctly yorkie :), in fact his coloring looks like my yorkie too. he's got a cute face :) |
He is such a cutie and looks all Yorkie to me also. I have a Yorkie whose body is blue/silver and his face is so light tan he looks blonde. He is even lighter than my Morkie who is mostly silver. |

I'm no expert (new Yorkie owner) but everything I've read indicates this is the color "breaking" and perfectly normal, to be expected. Btw, your little guy is adorable! |
He is so cute and looks like a beautiful yorkie. My male Hobbes is almost completely silver and he was black and tan. He is 11 months old. |
New picture! I have uploaded recent photos [of today]. Here, 5 months, you can really see the white of his head and silver growing out of the black from his back. I appreciate all your comforting comments :D http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ictureid=83101 PS if the link doesn't work, pictures available in my profile. Thanks! Quote:

Pet shops get their puppies from puppy mills. Puppy mills mass produce puppies for profit only. Quite honestly, you cannot expect to get a healthy dog or good representation of the breed from a pet shop/puppy mill. Any registry other than the AKC is no guarantee that the puppy is even purebred. Pet shops depend on inexperienced buyers like you admit you were to buy on impulse as you said you did. I'm not a professional in any way so I have no answers to your question Sorry. I just had to say that he is just adorable!!!! Congratulations on such a cutie!!!! |
Haha, he's a yorkie! :D Sugar's head was black when I first got her, about a month later it turned to white/silver (like yours now), but weeks later it became gold/tan. Her face is all gold color now but she still have silver/white highlight at her back. Sugar is 1 year old now :) |
