Boarding Your Yorkie...Help!
 

IDK anything about this specific place, it all sounds very nice. But I'm not a big fan of boarding facilities so I probably would make other arrangements, like staying at a hotel that did allow pets. Even if that meant staying away from the family group.

I do know that there are several bad breeders in the Hulbert area. Most of the rescued dogs I've been in contact with from that area, have Girardia and/or Coccidia. So, IDK if something is in the water around there or if these are just irresponsible breeders not getting pups adequately treated or what.

If you decide to use this place, I would just be careful and have a stool sample checked after getting back home.

oh you poor dear, having to use a boarder, and one you can't see first hand before. Since it's near the place where the reunion is taking place I would think that someone in your family lives near there? Would they be willing to go in person and check it out? I've never boarded my girls but I do occasionally board the boys. The facility I use isn't cheap but they love it. First thing I did was tour it. There is no odor, whatsoever. You'd never know there were animals there. That tells me it is very clean. They refuse to board without proof of UTD shots and bordatella has to be every 6mths. They let us bring whatever blankies, toys, food etc that we want to make them comfortable. They have individual suites (ours stay together) with their own TV, bed and access to outside run. They are walked several times daily and twice a day they are taken to a one acre fenced in grassy area to run and play, but not with other dogs, just themselves. We have dropped in unexpectedly and caught them doing the promised activities. All this to say that there are good kennels out there. We're not far from a large air force base and there are military personnel that when deployed have been known to board their dogs there for months at a time. If you can get a friend or family member in the area to go check it out in person and perhaps they'll also know someone who has used it.

And even in the best of facilities, when you come back you'll want to check for fleas and whatnot.... ya just never know.

We were very happy with the PetsMart Pet Hotel. They gave our kids lots of TLC. The only problem with boarding in a place like that is the communal bathroom. If your dog is pee pad trained, you might have problems when they get home thinking they can go wherever they want to go.

I have boarded mine before and I checked out the place that mine was going to with my vet first. They hear the good, bad and ugly about boarding kennels and groomers. When I went to check it out I was given a tour of the place. It was clean as a whistle both inside and out. I never saw one poo anywhere. I made sure that the inside runs were properly heated in the winter and they have air conditioning in the summer. They also got individual "lap time" from the owner and his wife. They have two huge outside play areas for when the weather is nice and individual outside runs as well. If it was ok with me they were allowed to play in the small dog inside kindergarten with other little dogs that were boarding there. They encouraged me to bring toys, beds or kennels from home so they had thier own stuff. THe only thing was the dishes, they used thier own as they were sterilized after each time they were fed. The one thing they were adamant about was that the dogs have thier bordettela and all other vaccines up to date. I was told I could drop in anytime and phone in the evening to make sure they were ok..my dogs loved going there. The kennel is called Papa and Nana's Kennel..and they treat them awesome. :)

I am sorry you are having to board your furbabie. I have never boarded mine and don't think I will. I am fortunate enough to have friends and family willing to take care of mine. I have had them come stay at our home and a few times have gone stay with others at their home. Good Luck.

I was thinking that the other day. I have people to watch Khloe in 2 weeks when we go to Cancun but I would watch someone's dog from this board and I am sure others would to...I third the motion to start an area for that !

Yes, lets start a trade babysitting time. I would absolutely babysit and would love to have a caring YT member look after mine:thumbup:

I would love to go to Six Flags over Texas one day over spring break next month but have no idea what to do with Lucy. Six Flags has a kennel, but it is in the gas station parking lot:eek: and the web site does not recommend leaving them for more than four hours.

I take mine to the vet for boarding if we just have to board, bc Prissy has seizures and the vet knows what to do for her.

I think that is a WONDERFUL idea.....babysitting trading......we all love our lil furbabies, whom better to watch them????

Trade babysitting is awesome!!! Do you think the Moderator will make that a new forum? They would have to come up with some kind of rules for trade. That would really take a load off us mommies. I know we all worry so much when we have to be away from our babies. We have to be gone over night this weekend and I am trying to figure out where Reesie is going to stay. I know it can be very stressful.

Let's start a petition for a babysitting forum! I'll start.:)

I have never board Duke either, considered it a few times but after visiting the near by boarding facilities, I was not impressed. I would say check it out if possible as mentioned before. Also check with your vet for recommendation.
Do you have friends in the area who can come over and stay for that one night? I have had to do that before and it worked out well.

LOL!:D I'm not really sure how to start a petition. I was just kidding (kind of!;)) But I think it would be really cool if we could start a babysitting forum. I think if enough people contacted the Moderator maybe they would consider it. It's worth a try!:D

I think trading babysitting our babies would be a great idea. I have the same problem, but, Family won't take Pixie and don't want to impose on friends all the time. Going on vacation this summer and don't now what to do with Pixie. I hope the Moderator will look into this idea.

What is so awesome about this babysitting swap idea is that it doesn't necessarily have to be for overnight etc.. there are times that you go to visit in an area that you just need a few hours to go to a meeting, conference or a restaurant that you can't take the furkids to that a sitter would be nice and a YTer in that area would be a godsend!!! Great idea!!! I'd do it for someone in a heartbeat! One could just build up community credits and use out of that, maybe???

what you're saying. It's the toughest thing for me to trust anyone with my fur-kids. Even my family doesn't get it! Someone in my family, while at dinner at their place, suggested I put my little girl in the bathroom while we had dinner!!!! I didn't get angry, of course, I just took my baby and went home...

When I told a friend I was adopting, she screamed and said I was crazy, "they are way too much work" she said.

Another family member suggested I let my 4 month old live out in the back yard (no yoke) and I live in northeast, PA.

I can tell you a dozen similar stories, but they're too sad. So, that's why I say I have no one to take care of my little ones :(

If hotel friendly is too much, try vacation homes, vacation villas and that type of thing (pet friendly, if not ask, some times they are flexible), it's cheaper and cleaner than a hotel and some have beater features, like a yard, etc.
That's the only way we stay in Florida. Last time we payed $700 for 9 days, (all inclusive; taxes, cleaning, insurance, etc.) my two Yorkies, heated pool, yard, 4 bedrooms for my little ones to play hide and seek and for me to stay friends with my fam. & friends :rolleyes:

Then maybe, a YT member where you'll be staying babysit for just a few hours?

The admin got back to us and said that YT is just too big to have a forum for this. But admin did suggest that we could go to the regional forums and post on there for a babysitting swap. I guess that would work well enough.:)
