Beware!!! Stop the cruelty! Do not support Backyard Breeders or Pet Stores (guess where they get their pups?). Many of the Animal Cruelty offenders are actually listed on this site as reputable. It is easy to fool you and so easy to fall in love with a puppy. Know the tragic "behind the scenes". Even the smaller breeders...who keep a loved pet pregnant her ENTIRE life. They are just puppy machines to them. Do your homework and please, consider a rescue first. Don't support the cruelty that you are not aware of. Get the knowledge that should be mainstream. If you have documented proof of a greeder who is a member here please post as much information as you can of what they are doing. We know we have these people here but until someone can post documented evidence of them being a puppymill or keeping their bitches constantly pregnant we really can't do much. |
Hello Cindy, The reason I found this site was because of a USDA Violation complaint linked to a phone number that was given as a reference at this site. I CAN "legally" say that the 2 violators, (so far) have, of course, presented themselves as a responsible breeders and not a puppy mill. I think the violations speak for themselves. 255 dogs. Grime on the walls, dirt, old feed, mouse droppings, outside cages, algae in water, larva in water, waste creating fly problems and odor, poor drainage with waste all over, rusted pipes, animals putting their head through cages, cages on top of each other (feces/urine dropping on dogs below), no lighting, etc. I will say that they are from Grubville, MO. and Sayre, OK. There are many, many more yet to be documented. Hopefully the new legislation will help give muscle to the officers who try to hold these breeders accountable. For for info contact: The Humane Society of the United States : The Humane Society of the United States ASPCA | Donate They will have extensive case files. Of course, they can't catch all and that is why it is so important for buyers to do their own research and if there is any sign of neglect or abuse, please contact them with the details and location. There is a USHS rep. in every state. I hope the readers here will get to know theirs. I hate interrupting nice chat sites like these with the awful realities and lecture style posts, but we all must speak for the voiceless. |
Thanks for posting these; many of us stay on Yorkietalk because we are trying to educate others about finding a good breeder. My personal thoughts are that if you cannot be sure that your breeder isn't contributing to the pet overpopulation, you should get your dog from a shelter or rescue. Responsible breeders ALWAYS take their dogs back and rehome them, if necessary. Anyone can join Yorkietalk and membership here is not an indication that someone is a responsible breeder. Many breeders have learned to talk the talk, but it really is no easy task to find a really good breeder. One of the biggest challenges facing Yorkietalk members is new members who join and want to breed. Encouraging them to seek more information is often futile. Unfortunately, too many people are selling dogs with full breeding rights, and these dogs are usually the poorest representatives of the breed. I wish all breeders would sell with limited registration, and only sell breeding dogs after the dog had been properly accessed for breeding potential. Thank you so much for the links, I especially liked this one, Backyard Breeders' Excuse List, I hear those excuses all the time. Please stay around, the more information we have, the more we can pass it on. |

I did have to giggle when I read your "nice chat sites" because I can tell you thre are many, many threads that get very passionate (locked down) and guess what we even have PETA members here along with breeders, pet owners, rescue organizations and we talk about everything. It is a great group of people and we try to educate everyone about all issues with pets. |
YT members posing as ethical breeders has always been a great concern of mine when I post welcomes and see that someone is looking for a little Yorkie. There is a thread by fasteddie ( http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-breeder.html) that I post on a newbie's page if they want to purchase a Yorkie from someone here on YT. Caution also needs to be used when adopting from a rescue. Puppy mills have been known to pose as a rescue. OP, I do hope that you stick around and help expose unethical breeders that are members of YT. You mentioned a couple members from Missouri and Oklahoma. Big surprise there. Half expected KS to be one of them. We're also know for our lax laws. ~Joanne~ |

I'm confused - how was this phone number used as a reference on this site? Am I wrong in asking that you simply post the names of these two violators? |
From Backyard Breeders' Excuse List (http://www.cal.net/~pamgreen/byb_excuses.html): "1. When called on bad breeding practices, ALWAYS claim that you are merely an innocent posting as a favor to a friend or family member." Interesting... I could swear I've seen that one here recently. |

I've tried searching to find the Sayre, OK breeder and remembered this Tulsa World story on puppymills. The first link is to a list of breeders with Sayre addresses, the second link is a search of the World's database for licensed dealers and breeders. I'm still trying to find out which one breeds yorkies. Tulsa World: Dog Breeders Tulsa World: Dog Breeders |
I found this breeder, but would have to "upgrade" to see more information :( Look at this boy near the bottom of the page. Poseidon SAYRE, OK USA Browse Yorkshire Terrier Puppies for Sale in Oklahoma |
