Help Need Advise Hello to all my yorkie lover friends I have a problem.I am here because I know we here are of like mind.We love our babies and consider them our kids and never a "dog".So here is the question.I have a friend that I have recently re-connected with,we were very best friends in grade school. We have only been talking a few weeks now and have even went to lunch a few times and find we still could be friends. She of course has fell in love with my chocolate yorkie he is 10 months old now.She has a shis tzu and had ask if she could use my boy to breed with her girl.I dont not like this at all.I do not want to offend her but I am not willing to do this.I dont know how to tell her without offending her I do know that she and I are very different in our veiws in this area.Thank you in advance for any responses. |
If he's 10 months old now, you should have him neutered (they should usually be neutered around 6 months old anyway). Then you can honestly tell her that he "can't." |
If you don't feel like being completely honest about why you don't want to do it because it may offend her, maybe you can use some other relevant excuses. You could tell her you have heard once a boy dog mates he could start marking and having humping issues and that you don't want to risk the chance of that. Could that work? :D |
"he is sterile" should do the trick |
or, he may like it, and, well you know..... Seriously, just let her know there are enough dogs in shelters and rescues, and you are only interested in bettering the breed .....or as the other person said, get him fixed. |
politely tell her you are not interested he shouldn't breed until something like two years old and by then if you have not had him fixed he will have learned bad behaviors that you do not want to deal with and dose she really want to wait another year |
A.) You can either lie and tell her he is sterile, or the vet said he cannot be bred. B.) Tell her the truth. That as his owner, you have decided not to bred him, because you don't want him to develop bad habits and you are planning to get him fixed ASAP. #1 he is too young anyway. #2 You've learned a lot from here and know that random breeding is strongly discouraged for many many reasons. Just chose your options above based on your relationship to this person and how "resonable" she can be when hearing an answer that she doesn't want to hear. Thumbs up to you for being a great yorkie owner!!! |

Tell her there are already plenty of mixed dogs in shelters and the world doesn't need anymore.;) You wouldn't be lying. Then you can take yours to get him neutered, because you don't really want him to get cancer when he gets old. |
I faced a similar issue once with our yorkie "Baby' when she was four years old. My mother in law had a yorkie and wanted them to mate and have puppies. I didn't want to breed her, period. Besides that I didn't want to breed Baby with her dog because I didn't think he was healthy, breed standard and I thought he was too big anyway. Baby was 5 lbs and her yorkie Paco was almost 10 lbs. We both had the same vet so I asked him for a good reason to tell her no without offending her about the quality of her dog. He agreed with me and told me her yorkie was too big and Baby might be seriously injured or even die. As it turned out her yorkie died early because it did turn out to have health issues. If your puppy is larger than hers then it's not a good idea for them to breed either. Her pup may be at risk, too. |
