Help please my dogs are fighting. I have 2 Yorkie girls and over the past couple of weeks they have been fighting. Not the usual play fighting, but full on aggression and it takes a lot to pull them apart. Katie is almost 3 and Suzi almost two. Suzi is very small. They normally get on really well. My daughter recently got a boy puppy Odie and has come to live with us. Odie is 7 months. We've had him here 5 months. (He cannnot understand it when they're fighting.) I've always tried to show them I'm the boss but am at a loss why they are fighting. Suzi was in season 3 weeks ago if she and Odie mated, (we did kept them separate as much as possible. Could pregnancy cause her to be aggressive? She doesn't appear pregnant. I read on the net that female dogs can fight is this what it is? It's got to the stage when I can see the build up to it. They start staring each other and tails go up. I remove one and take her into another room. Although it's difficult as we are open plan downstairs. Would appreciate any comments. Thank you. are you girls spayed? reason why i ask this is because usually when one or both is not....and when one or the other is coming into heat....they tend to get snappy...sorta like most human females....and if they are not and you are not intending to breed them i would highly recommend that you get them spayed. |
Katie is spayed Suzi isn't yet. Hugs Shirl x x |
How old is Suzi? Could she possibly be in heat or coming into heat? I have Mei Ling here who is in heat and she is something else in that small body of hers....she is guarding food bowls and picking fights with Ting Ting.... |

to the op: so there is a possibility that she is pregnant? i don't know how i miss that part.... also you said she was in heat 3 weeks ago...you still need to keep Odie and Suzy apart...can't take any chances for them to tie...if they haven't already... |
Thanks for your replies. Suzi is 5lb. She's finished her season as he's not interested in her anymore. I only hope she's not pregnant. Am waiting a couple more weeks just to check, then will see our vet. I plan to have her spayed mid season. Thanks again. Hugs Shirl x x |
re:fighting I adopted a foster over a year ago and she and Izzie did great for a year-then out of the blue they started having knock down drag out fights. Nothing I tried helped until the vet suggested taking a tin can and put some coins in it and shake it at them and tell them no when they fight. It just took a few times of using the can and it helped. I can tell when they are going to fight because Izzie starts doing her tail like a rattlesnake. Now all I have to do is tell them I going to get THE CAN and they stop. |
