Anyone else been told... ... that their pet is much better behaved when they are not around? I've been told many times by various vets, groomers, daycare workers and office cleaning people that Thor is a little angel when I'm not there to witness it. I went to the vet today, and of course Thor was acting all melodramatic, shaking, whining, struggling and scratching if I got more than 6 inches away from him. He's 4 lbs and the vet tech couldn't get him to sit still enough to weigh him. The tech took him into a back room and popped back in to tell me that in a different room, Thor sat right down on the scale and helped the tech take notes on the readout. Okay, kidding about the last part, but the tech and vet both said that pets tend to be much calmer when their owners are not there. Whenever I drop Thor off at the groomer, he acts like I'm leaving him there to die, but when I pick him up, he comes out with the groomer like they are BFFs. I'm also fortunate enough to take Thor to work with me. He usually sleeps on my desk, and he does not like to jump down, so his movement is pretty limited. If a cleaning person is unlucky enough to come in to take the garbage, Thor barks and growls. Sometimes I step out to grab dinner, and I'll leave Thor on my desk where he can't really harass anyone. Multiple cleaners have told me that if they come in when I'm not there, Thor is perfectly friendly. The thing is, Thor is generally pretty obedient with me - I started clipping his nails a few months ago, and he's pretty cool about that, for instance. If he gets mats, he'll sit still and let me brush them out. He prefers to be with me, but he doesn't get particularly upset if I leave him alone for a few hours. So yeah, just wondering what that's all about. |
I've been told the complete opposite. Cute, obedient little angel that Kaji is turns into Kujo when I'm not around. I went for a job interview and was gone a total of 2 hours. He not only pooped on the carpet, but he begged for food (he was very insistent), jumped on the desk chair to get up on my mom's desk while holding some brand new hair ties I had just bought. He then proceeded to chew on them and was very offended when he was removed from the desk and they took his chew thing away. I have honestly never seen such behavior!!! I will admit I heard him once. When I lived in Irvine I was in the middle of grooming Kaji upstairs in my room. My old roomie was having some issues and I ran down to comfort her leaving Kaji alone on my bed. Well... I heard him jump on my bed! Like a little kid jumping up and down on the bed it was really funny! But once I got up there I saw what he did.... he peed all over my just washed comforter and my hair dryer. Oh well, more laundry to do that day! |
They act like children don't they. lol. Hugs Shirl x x |
Sometimes if you are worried about him, he will pick up on those vibes and may be acting on them. In situations where I have difficulty controlling my emotions/feelings, I know it is better for my pup if I'm not around. The desk thing sounds like he may be trying to protect you. Be sure to let him know you have things under control. ( be a little more Alpha with him):D |
When I leave Laci , she just goes to sleep, she wont eat, poop or even pee, until I get home, she goes in my room under my bed and just sleeps..Its pretty funny , it sounds like thunder the second I open my front door she runs down the stairs and jumps up so I can take her outside. She is really a good girl!! |
Oh yes, mine act like angels when I am not around! They know I let them get away with everything! Daddy keeps them in line, somewhat! Just like kids, when the cats away the mice will play!LOL |
Well I can honestly say my first yorkies were perfectly behaved while I was at work, once I returned it was madness as they vied for my attention. Thankfully know its the other way around as they sence my moms inability to correct them and will try it on with her. I appear and things calm down as they get a long walk anf fed so they're usually settled for the evening, though I've had to take the step today of banning them off the sofa as they use it to bark at everything and everyone going past. |
Yorkies are just like kids. Let them out of your sight for one second and who knows what they are getting into. |
