Dragging her Bottom When I came home yesterday and Bridget came to greet me, she was dragging her bottom on the floor. She did it again when we got outside for her walk. I picked her up and noticed (sorry, it’s gross) a little bit of poop stuck in her fur on her bottom. I got it out and she hasn’t dragged her bottom since. Could it have been just that? Don’t want to sound paranoid, but should I take her in to the vet to get it checked or just keep an eye on her? She doesn’t look red or swollen or anything and her poop appears normal. Might have been just a one-time thing getting in her way? |
Its probably o.k. Yorkies ( most dogs) will do this if a little poop is stuck their tushy. Make sure you keep that area clipped and you should't have a problem. Mine has done the same thing from time to time. If it continues, then I would take them to the vet. |
Lilly does that every time she goes #2. It drives me crazy sometimes because she will go on her pee pad and then get off and start dragging her bottom on the floor and get whatever was left all over my floor lol.. I have used babywipes as soon as she is done so she doesn't do it but she still does it at night... I dont know what to do to stop her. I think unless there is some swollenness or redness, I wouldn't worry to much, but you can always ask your vet. |
Also, sometimes they need their anal glands cleaned out. If she hasn't done it again she is probably just trying to clean herself. |
I'm going to say that it is because she had poop stuck to her. If she hasn't done it again, there isn't a problem. They HATE to have poop stuck to them! I wouldn't start the excretion of the glands unless you have to. |
As the post said above, I've read a lot about having the anal sacks cleaned. It's important to have it done at least 1-2 times a year and could most likely be the problem. Most groomers can do it no problem, just let them know to clean the anal sacks while they are grooming her and she should be fine. If her bowels are very smelly, cleaning the anal sacks should also help with that. Incase you aren't sure what the anal sacks are they are 2 bubble like sacks in the anus that need to be squeezed. They fill with liquid and can become irritated if the fliud is not released. Good luck with your baby=) |
Its probably just because she was cleaning herself. If the anal glands needed to be expressed she would still be doing it. |
They really don't like to have anything stuck on them. I bet she was just cleaning herself. :) |
Sounds to me like it was because she had poo stuck on her. If she has not done it again then I would not worry. Also I would not start getting the anal glands surpressed if she is not having problems, from what I have heard once you start having this procedure done you have to continue with it. I would just trim the hair around the area to keep the poo from getting stuck to her hair.... ;) |
Me Too! WELLLLLLLL....I SURE wouldnt want anything stuck to me, and I would drag my butt too! :D LOL, Chelsea'sMom :aimeeyork |
Gus has been doing that. I figuared why,,,, I just gave him a good buzz on Sunday and I think I got a bit too close. his little butt is all red the next day,,, so I put some cream that I got from the vet after his accident, and soon after applying, he stopped dragging his bottom. The redness is not but his rear is prickly. Poor little guy. I usually use a #2 on him but thought I'd take it all off. I wont be doing that again! |
Snickers did the same thing once and it was a small peice of poop also and once it was gone she hasnt done it again. |
dragging is she just dragging her butt or scooting on the floor. Dogs will scoot on their rears when they have worms. |
