Won't let me touch her face My baby girl loves to be brushed, but will not let me touch her face. My groomer told me to try rubbing to make her easier to groom but she won't let me. Anyone have any ideas on how to get her to let me rub or brush?!?! |
That's odd, I wonder if she's teething and her mouth hurts? Also, when cleaning eyes, use a warm damp washcloth as it is less harsh for them. All it takes is one bad experience, and they get anxious. I started grooming slowly with Joey; it was more about getting him use to the sights and sounds rather than him looking good. I used cheerios to reward him every few minutes. Now he's really good, but if he sees me with the brush, he'll run the other way! |
I had a similar issue with Harley when she was really young. She never minded the brushing, but for some reason, she wasn't keen on my brushing the hair on her mustache. I think it may be a bit uncomfortable for them too as that hair tends to tangle and stick together easier because of food, water, and sniffing the ground. Try massaging her while she's on her back, this will relax her. And then when you feel her relax, move up to her face gently and just stroke it with your hands while talking softly and lovingly. This worked for Harley. It's still not her favorite, but she doesn't fight it anymore. When she lets you touch or caress her face, have a treat ready. Try giving her a specific treat which she's never had before, and use this ONLY for grooming the face. Maybe she'll begin to look forward to it because she knows she gets an out of the ordinary treat;) Good luck!! oh and welcome to YT!! |
My Maddie does better if I wash her face and then use a comb to comb out the wet hair. I think their faces are just more sensitive, like ours. If you're old enough to have ever had to pluck a dark colored hair from above your lip, you can imagine what it is like for them when it pulls. Also, the black, thicker "whiskers" are probably sensitive as well. |
Gee, I'm so dense, Joey hates his mustache combed too. I found a wide toothed metal comb that I can run through it without much discomfort for him. Start closer to the ends if it looks tangled. Then I'm able to use the smaller toothed mustache comb pain-free. I use to use plastic combs and he bit all those to pieces. |
Gracie doesn't like her face brushed either. If I cover her eyes she does just fine. |
She won't even just let me rub my finger across her face....its not just the brushing and pulling. Even when she is relaxed she still fights me. |

Daisy will not let me get around her face except to clean her eyes. I have to wait til she is alseep and trim the hair going into her eyes piece by piece. She has always been that way. |
