Aggression after spaying. I am so upset. My female yorkie Roxy has had a complete personality change after she got spayed. She is a big bully with my male yorkie Gibson. Gibson is significantly smaller than Roxy so this worries me. She will run full force at him and bulldoze him over, start biting his ear, pounce at him etc. If Gibson tries to chew on a bone, she will go over and growl at him and take it away and then try to hide it. I have tried disciplining her but she does not stop. Has anyone experienced this? :( |
Sounds like she wants to be the pack leader or the Alpha dog. Does she do this with you too or just other animals? You need to be the Alpha over both of them. She needs to be put in her place when she shows this kind of behavior. |
I have never experienced this with four females. If anything, they are usually more laid back than anything. More docile. Are you certain there isn't some other change that you have overlooked that could be causing this? She never, ever reacted this way in the past? |
Before she was spayed she was obviously the alpha dog. She would take the bones and toys away from him and pile them up in a corner but she never growled at him. She is out of hand now. They do not even play with each other anymore. With me and my boyfriend she tries to boss us around but we do not let her. For instance she will bring us a ball and place it on our lap to play. If we do not pay attention to her she will keep nudging it to get our attention. If we say no, she will bring it back. Eventually she gives up. I saw an episode of the dog whisperer and he said not to play with them when they do that because they start seeing YOU as a toy to play with. I just do not know what I can do at this point to stop her from being so aggressive. Any suggestions? |
I am in no way trying to be sarcastic but I would find a really good book and read it cover to cover. Or maybe check into a training program (with a trainer) and see if that might help correct her aggressivness. Good Luck! |
I agreed I think you might need help from a canine behaviorist. She is definitely being the alpha dog and that needs to be address. Good luck. |
