Hi everyone! Haven't been here in a while... and I need some advice!! 2 Attachment(s) First off, I miss you guys! I have been so busy with school and work I haven't had a chance to post in ages! Baxter is now 1 year and 3 months! It seems like yesterday that I bought him! We are currently living with my roommate who has a bigger dog--- they get along just fine, because they grew up together! They keep each other occupied when me and her are studying! :animal36:animal-pa Anywho, I have been having some trouble with his barking--- he likes to bark at anything at everyone!! If they are guys, he will sometimes nip at their feet!!!! I usually give him a stern "no" but he continues to bark and ignore me.. My roommate and boyfriend say I am not firm enough with him, and I admit that I give in too easily with his sweet, sad eyes... but this behavior has got to stop n-o-w. I have heard of spraying him water? Or also getting a can of coins? What has worked best for you guys? Thanks in advance!! :D |
I'd be interested to see any advice on this too. Molly has days when she is as good as gold, and then other days when she barks at anything that moves!! Today was one of those days..she was like a hyperactive child and no one was spared her bark! We didnt walk as long as we usually do because of it. |
The sprays that hiss out air are good. They worked quite well for me. Hugs Shirl x x |
if all else fails you can try this, I know of quite a few people that have had great sucess with it... ![]() Read the reviews, it seems to really help... I know a friend of mine bought it, now she only has to pick it up and no barking..AT ALL... |
I use a sharp clap clap with my hands. Try to do it very early on in the barking cycle - because often once they start barking - they love the sound of it - get more excited and bark some more. Also I use a plastic can with coins in it. It can be rolled across the floor to where they are barking. Hope it helps |
my dachshunds, like to bark at the squirrls outside, when they do this I used a can of coins and shook it, it catches their attention and then I tell them no ... I also watch Dog Whisperer and he says that barking is b/c they need more excersise to drain their energy...that its built up energy ... as for nipping at that men... well I think that he is jealous and is trying to claim his space...lol... he just doesnt like guys... hope you get better advice... good luck, your little guy is so cute!;) |
Thanks everyone for the advice!! I think I'll try the coins in the can thing first before I go out and buy anything... So, you shake it, and then when it catches their attention, you say "no" ? Should I reward him for not barking?? Quote:

I used the coins in the can trick. Worked like a charm. Did not reward. If Presley starts barking out of control now (usually when someone rings the bell or there is another dog he notices) all I have to say is -- Don't make mommy get the can! That's all it takes now. |
