Good luck! You might even set something up and let him use it while you're at home, praise him and give him a treat when he does so he knows it's o.k. and then he should be fine with the new set-up while you're gone. |

I think a bathroom might be too small, Is there anyway you could put up a gate? The doggy door really should be used only if your home. Way too much could happen when your not there. Maybe a open door crate with pads, and a gate to keep him in one room. Good Luck :) |
We had a freak snowstorm (for us) last year and we got 2 feet of snow!! Bo was only about 2 1/2 months old. I got my shovel and shovelled our back patio all the way down to the ground so he'd have a place to go potty! There was no other way! Our Schnauzer had to go out too and the snow was just too deep!! |
One thought for those of you who have to take your yorkies outside is that you can buy a heavy tarp and put it down outside. For smaller snows, you can pull it back slowly and then have a clean place for your little one to use. It will save you a little hard labor! :D It wouldn't work very well for the really heavy snows, but would be a life saver for the smaller snows. |

Gina, Thanks for the suggestion - I think we may blockade him in the kitchen. We only allow him access in and out of the doggy door when we aren't home because we have a *very* secure 7 foot privacy fence and a security system. But with the weather changing soon, we will have to think of something else. And to answer a previous poster: Last winter we were in a condo, and we had completely different schedules, so one of us was always home with Rex. We moved into our new house in early spring this year. Thanks again for your help! |
Ok my suggestion is to maybe put a little fence-type thing around your backdoor. That way he can still go outside and do his business, but he wouldn't have free reign of the backyard --- and what fun is being outside if you cant romp around in the yard? You can just keep that space nice and shoveled for Rex. |

Kristy! I remember talking to you in the chat room a few months back! How are you? We were chatting with FastEddie...I haven't been able to get into chat the last few times I tried. What's up with that? My husband and I just thought of exactly what you suggested, so I think that's what we may do. Thanks, buddy! |
I am going to bed, Kristy, but if you get this...I will check it tomorrow night. How do I get back on the chat boards? Thanks! Kerry |
Hey Kerry! Glad you wandered back here ;) I have probs getting in, too, but I figured this out: When you get to the chat box where you usually type what you want to say, type this: /server irc.easynews.com and then you should be in the Yorkie Talk chat. If you're not, in that same box type: /join #yorkietalk Hope that helped!!! I am going to be @ school all day and then I will be watching the White Sox this evening, but hopefully I will see you back in there! Kristy |
I agree with most everyone here, No way would I leave them unattended. It is just asking for trouble. Why not try to use puppy pads or news paper in the kitchen? Sue |
