Help!! More questions We have only had Ozzi one day but how to we handle the dogs getting along. He just tried to attack Dolce our little puppy. But Dolce has been barking at him. I told Ozzi to stop. Any help with that??? Also at 8 months is he at his adult size???? |
At 8 months, he is most likely near his adult size. He may gain a couple of pounds more if not a little more. Just guessing from my own experience...he could possibly gain 2-5 pounds more depending on his body structure. I can't help with them getting along. I hope you can work it out. :) |
I don't know if you saw my post on your other thread, but it's natural for them to fuss until they establish a pack order. Even after they become buddies, just like people they may still bicker once in a while. Just keep a close eye on them until you feel comfortable. Especially the little one! My little Dublin (7mos) sits and barks at the older dogs, and he's learned that they may snap or growl at him but they never hurt him (all my dogs are very sweet natured) so now it's become a game to him... |
Thank you!!! My concern is that Ozzi will hurt Dolce. So that makes me nervous and he also tries to nip at my son. I hope he will be a good addition to our family. I don't want anything to happen to my son or our other puppy. I have contacted Bark Busters for training. Does anyone have any experience with that company?? |
Just some tips from the lady that adopted our Thumper (he had some of the same problems): 1. Don't reinforce any of the negative behaviors. If he snaps or tries to fight with the other dog, put him in the kitchen or somewhere for a time-out (with a stern "No"). I would pick Thumper up when he growled or snapped, in this way I was telling him that if he growled he would get my attention. 2. Use a squirt bottle and spray him with water when he misbehaves (I didn't try this, but she said it would help). These are just a couple of tips she gave me. Hope they help. |
Well I took Ozzi to the Vet. The Dr said he looked in great health. He also offered me some other tips. I can't wait to see what Ozzi's true personality is like. The Dr said to give him time to get used to us and his new home. He is just a doll. We are thinking about changing his name. The previous owner spelt his name "Ozzy". I like Roman but I told my husband he could pick out his name since I chose Dolce's name. My hubby is from Italy and I thought it only fitting to give our babies Italian names :) |
