camping with the furbutts? I am going to take my furbutts camping with me (cabin not tent) in hocking hills in March. I know that I need to be very careful with them and keep them on a leash and be careful of the wildlife. What other advise can you give me please? It's going to be our first 'family' vacation so I am nervous and excited, but please give me all the advise you can don't hold back!:D I want it to be a fun and safe adventure for all of us |
We have a great time camping with ours they love it! We use our leads and we also have an xpen and that is amazing! I would totally recommend getting one so that they can run and play in there. Have fun and just keep an eye out!:) |
Are they currently on a flea and tick prevention medication? I'm thinking more of the ticks in this situation actually. I don't know how prevalent they are there at that time of year, but its something to think about |

Oh it is so fun!! Always be sure that you keep them on a leash and never out of your sight! I have never had a problem with mine and we go camping in tent! =) So much more fun, although the cabins are beautiful! Checklist (Flea and Tick && Heartworm Meds) (Leash) (Food) (Water) (First Aid, You never know what can happen to you or them) (Exercise Pen, if you are into that, walking is the best medicine) (Love, lovelove) Oh and last but not least (RELAXATION!!!!) Have a great trip! |

thanks for the checklist it is great! |
Yes, I know.. SUPRISE storms on top of that. I usually bail and sleep in my car...that doesn't have reclining seats! But I guess it beats being electricuted.. LOL |
My dad brings his 2 dogs camping all the time and I can't WAIT to bring Jackson. I just know he will love it. But my dad has an RV so I guess it's not "true camping" but anyways, he bought an ex-pen so they can just open the RV door and let the dogs out in a little area. |
we are campers also (we have a trailor) what do you put in the first aid kit? and also how do you keep their hair protected from dirt, burs, etc. & breakage? we do have a tub in the trailor so I will be able to bath if we are gone for a couple of weeks |
Ooooh camping!! So fun! When I travel I always bring nutrical and babywipes. Have a wonderful safe trip:D |
We go camping ( in October/November, in a tent, in the cold ) and Chloe loves it !! I was worried at first but I just made sure to keep her with me ( and warm) at all the times and she had a blast. I bought clothing and coat ( as well as snuggling her in my coat ) , a retractable leash so she could run in the open spaces without getting out of my sight , and wipes so I could clean her feet at night . I also took booties for her to wear in the daytime since it was cold ( which she didn't really like to wear) I also recommend a puppy/dog sling type carrier for hiking. We would take Chloe with us but I would end up with her in the sling halfway thru the hike so she could rest ( That may be unnecessary depending on the size of your baby , chloe was( is) small so I didn't want to push her too much ...even though she can hang with the big dogs :p) As long as you keep a close eye on your furbaby it will be fine :) enjoy your trip ! |
I also camp with my four yorkies and my two kids (boys 9 and 5 yr olds). We have a little 17 ft trailer. We always bring the ex-pen. It allows them to be outside but not tied to a tree and safe from passing dogs and other critters. I also have a large soft, foldable kennel that they like to hide in. They all sleep with me in the bed and never leave them unattended outside. |
I forgot to add that you can get shade covers for the top of the ex-pen so provide extra shade and protection from birds etc. |
Dog brush and some grooming scissors are a must. I don't know about you, but no matter where I go, especially forested areas though, Josephine seeks out and hones in on anything that will mat/get stuck in her fur. Tree sap, burs, twigs- you name it, she's had stuck in her fur. I always find such things easier to work out asap so its nice to have grooming tools ready. |
