Best way to walk two? What is the best way to walk two together. I tied their leads together, to work like a coupler, but they both pulled hard in opposite directions  Toby is good on the lead, doesnt pull etc, but does tend to stop and investigate a lot. Maisie is really only learning the lead. Is good(ish) on her own, but put the two together and we are getting nowhere! At times, they will walk beside each other, sometimes its one behind the other, sometimes its one at each side, and sometimes one has stopped and the other is trying to walk on. I dont have time to walk them both seperately so has anyone a failproof method? |
I had to get a coupler for Wrigley & Camden for reasons similar to what you described. I really didn't think it would work and they would try and kill each other! :p It takes some time, but it works now! Wrigley likes to keep moving, so Camden pretty much has to follow her lead, but they were always twisted, pulling and almost tripping me at every turn before! |
I use to walk 3 dogs at the same time a golden retriever, Yorkie, and jack-a-poo. I would put them all on their own leash. I would put them on my left side and wrap the leash in my left hand about two times around (depending on the length) and drape the excess kinda infont of me not too loose and hold the rest in the right hand. I would control them with my left hand and not give them too much lead. If they pulled I would pull back and say back. It took about 2 weeks but they loved walking together. |
I remember someone on here that used a coupler and one of her's was injured because of it. I don't remember who it was or the exact injury, but it wasn't because they were fighting or anything like that. Maybe someone else can recall... |

You might want to check out Chattiesmom, a member on this site. She makes a Walk Two Leash that looks like it might work for you. She shows them in her Silk Step In Harnesses link. |
I walk 3 also a 95 pound Lab and a 5pound and a 4pound Yorkie and they all stay either behind or on my right so there is never any pulling. I use a coupler for Muffy and Buddy. Muffy did pull Buddy at first but he got the piont real fast. |
I'm actually in the process of ordering a coupler leash and step in harness from Chattiesmom. I'm really excited! I will let you know how it works out for us. I have a 1 yr 9 lb yorkie and a 10 wk 2 1/2 lb yorkie :P OH JOY!!! |

I ordered a Walk Nice Harness, matching leash and some Yummies from her the other day, too. :) |
oooOOooo I LIKE this one how'd he do that!!! |
I walk mine both at the same time (mine seem similar to your's a 2.5 year old slow moving investigator and a 10 month old racer) holding one leash in each hand. I've begun moving them to the same hand and Nala walks in front (even though she's younger and submissive to everyone else, she's Bandit's boss) and Bandit meanders behind. By the summer I'd love to have them walking on a coupler, but now I'm concerned about what the above poster said about a possible injury. |
