should I get a second Yorkie-and what to expect? Hello everyone, I just got approved for a rescue Yorkie. I have one picked out that I am going to see next weekend. I am kinda of nervous about getting a second dog. I love my current Minnie bunches! I wanted to get her a play mate, because she loves to play with other dogs. SHe is two. I am nervous because, I am unsure of how it will affect Minnie and our family life. How much it will change, can I handle it etc. I take Minnie every where with me,which I love, how will it be with 2 dogs. Love to hear some HONEST feedback on experiences once you took on additional dogs..... Thanks! |
We had Bandit as an only dog, and when he was a little over 2 we added Nala. SHe was a VERY high energy puppy! At first Bandit would have absolutely nothing to do with her, but now they cuddle together on the couch and play together. It was a long warming up period, and at times I really thought Bandit would never like her, but it was so worth it. I know Bandit loves having a playmate, and although she can be too much at times for him (shes's 10 months, he's almost 3 years) I think it was a good decision to get her. My only advice is to do introductions carefully on neutral territory (we did it at my parents house). Hope you get a 2nd one:) |
I have 3 and until my pom passed last year had 4. I had always only had one dog at a time until 4 years ago, then I added a second, then a third and then a fourth. I wish I had done it sooner. They really do like having canine companionship and are still just as loving to me. The down side is it is a little harder to take 2 or more with you. If you can afford the vet bills if an additional one I say go for it. Are you looking at adopting a puppy or an adult? Most rescues do an interaction with your dog and the one you are looking to adopt so that gives you an idea how they will get along. Keep us posted. |
We just got a second Yorkie puppy a little over a week ago. It was a tough first week but things are getting better. My Rocky adjusted well to his new sister, better than we hoped. They run around and play a lot and seem to love each other. I had a rough first week but things are getting much better! It is nice to see them play with each other. Both still want attention from their people but they play with each other too. It depends on the socialization of both dogs, how they get along. We are lucky so far but I do look forward to when she grows up! :) |
