Yorkie and their tails!!! I just dont know I have to ask this question because my Yorkie tail is short, when i bought her from the breeder she never told me that the tail was docked. So i wonder do their tails rarely grow? Or do some grow and some don't? I seen some long tail Yorkie pictures and they are so cute... |

I think the norm is to dock them. I do know that some states don't allow that docking, but not sure which states they are. |
not mine Docking isn't allowed in Europe so my three have lovely flowing hair on their long tails that curl over their backs. It really adds to their beauty and if they carry their tails high they are a sight to be seen. |
Jackson has his full tail because the "breeder" never docked it. I love it. :) Most dogs you see with short or docked tails were not born this way, except the Australian Shepherd, I believe? |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 305931 tia has a full tail and i love it, its illegal to cut them off in the U.K and rightly so. |

I don't know how I feel about tail docking. Absolutely it is unnecessary nowadays (no more ratting) and of course I know it causes them pain, but I do like the look of the docked tail. However, I love the full tail too, just another way to show emotion. :) |
A tail is for wagging. In England docking isn't allowed. Hugs Shirl x x |
Leave the tails:-) Quote:
Eventually (fairly soon) it will also be illegal to dock (or anything else cosmetic). a few states and some cities have banned it. California is one, I cannot think of another at the moment, sorry.. They are trying here in WA. We already have a new law on the books about breeder, making mills almost impossible here... And when docking a tail I more often than not see it done wrong. The yorkie's is supposed to be cut HALF so when the tail is straight up in air it should be higher then the back. Kizzie my first yorkie had been docked too short, you cannot even see her move it. Mindy has a full tail and it curls over her back, I love her tail!! And Gracie was done properly. Most vets do not know how to dock the tail the correct length, and especially so many breeds, they are all diff rules. And most breeders don't know either. Emotions in a dog are shown through/with his tail, his FULL tail and to take that away for cosmetic reasons is just wrong, IMO.. |

I wish I could find a breeder that did not dock the yorkies as I would really like to get a little boy soon and would like him to have his beautiful tail. But not many are around, I haven't been able to find even 1 in the US so far.. Might end up having to get one from Canada (also do not dock there, i think).. |
I like a docked tail if it is done right. I have a girl here that has no tail at all and don't know what the breeder was thinking. She claimed they didn't get as much poop stuck to them.. well hello cut the hair around and that will stop that. I will keep docking unless I have a buyer that request it not to be when they are born. |
