Male Marking Territory I hope this works since this is my first time.:) I have a 9 month old male yorkie. Today we went to see the little girl we're going to bring into our family soon. When we left we went to a friend's house and for the first time that I know of he marked on her rug near the coffee table. He has never done this in our home and my friend who is much more knowledgeable than I am thought it was because there were so many dogs there. She told us to come home and wash our clothes and our little guy right away. Our little guy is very socialable and use to being with other people and animals. However, he has only been around 2 dogs at a a time before and today my breeder had a total of 12 dogs which included the three liters of puppies she currently has in her home. Does anyone else have another idea as to why he did this and what we can do to make sure he doesn't continue to do this in our home or in someone else's home? I really appreciate everything I have learned here and would appreciate any advice you can give me.:D |
I would assume your friend had un-altered females and males in her home? There's your answer....that's why he marked. |
neuter him asap if you don't want him to keep doing it. |

Get him fixed BEFORE you bring home your new little girl. The marking will only get worse I would assume! He will be much happier without his male parts ;) |
A big thanks to everyone who responded to my first post. But, I guess I left out some important information. My little guy is 9 months old and was neutered at six months. Now, the dogs at my breeders home were non-neutered or sprayed (not sure of the correct terminology). At my friend's home where he did his little nasty there is a beautiful little girl yorkie who was sprayed at six months. He did this shortly after arriving at the friend's house and we had all been at the breeders home with the other dog. My friend thought it was because we still had the smell of the other (unfixed) doggies on us. and that washing our clothes and our little boy when we got home would help. As far as we know he has not done it since we got home yesterday evening. I just don't want him to start doing it regularly and I'm concerned what will happen when we bring our little baby girl home in a couple weeks. Do I have to wear a belly band on him all the time once she comes home until she is sprayed?:( |
