3.8lbs at 2.5 mo I posted this thread about a week ago but cant find it. I want to know, is it common for a yorkie (Both parents are yorkies) to weight 3.8lbs at 2 1/2 months. At this rate he'll be huge. I'm thinking that I am either feeding him to much or he's mixed. |

Well he can't be mixed if you say his parents are both yorkies? Theres yorkies that grow to be alot larger then others. We have lots on here who are over the standard of 7 lbs. |
well mines was 4pounds at 3 months and he is pure. now at 10 months he is 8 pounds and is still very very small |
Jackson was 6lbs at 12 weeks old. He's now 12lbs at 1 year of age. His parents were 8 and 9lbs. I have no 100% proof that he's a Yorkie, as he's not registered nor has papers or anything, but there's a lot of purebred larger Yorkies. |

To OP; he is a puppy so you probably aren't feeding him to much, and more than likely he is 100% yorkie. Some just are bigger.:) |
Don't worry, i have a larger yorkie..he is 12 months and nearly 6 lbs according to our scale at home..at 9 weeks he was 3-4 lbs. we have a vet appt soon and so then i will get a more accurate estimate. he is a chunky bear cub-lookin thing :p |
Did you actually see the sire and dam? Even though he's big, I bet he's the love of your life! |
Our youngest Yorkie Odie is huge, he's 7 months. We saw his mum, she wasn't very big. and we were told they had to stand his dad on a box to perform as he was so small. Odie is twice as big as one of my Yorkies and 3 times bigger than my smaller one. Not sure of his weigh but he's well over 10 lb. Perhaps he just takes after one of his grandparents etc., He's a love though. Hugs Shirl x x |
My Pixie has almost already out weighed both her parents. Her Mom was 4.5 and the dad I think was 4 Pixie is 4.5 at 22 weeks. She is growing like a weed and she has surprised her breeder bc she thought that she would not be bigger than 5 lbs but I thinks she is going to zoom past that one. Just more to love I say;) |
[QUOTE=AmyChristine;2963733]He is one of my favorite yorkies to look at and hear about, I love the action shots:):thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:I fully agree, I do love to see and hear about Jackson...he is adorable!! |

You can't overfeed a 2 1/2 month puppy. Until he reach 1 year old, don't even think about reducing the food. When I got Astra, the breeder also had a 6 months old yorkie boy that was already about 12 lbs. He was gorgeous, Champion bloodline with a great pedigree. Some yorkie get way bigger than others. They make great pet and are usually specially cute with there big paws.:p |
My Isabeau was 3.7 at 11 weeks old and she is now 9 and a half. I also have a pure bred Yorkie that is 22lbs. :) I have two smaller ones as well (5 and a half and another that is 4 and a half). I actually prefer my Isabeau's size the best out of my guys! |
I'm fairly new to the wonderful world of yorkies, but from my experience with my two, you just can't predict what size they will be. Rily started out following the chart to be around 6 pounds. He had a growth spurt after he was neutered and weights around 9 pounds now at 9 months. Saydee started out tiny, grew fast, but now at 5 months she seems to be slowing way down. She has been around 5 pounds now for over a month. I also keep height and length records. Neither have grown much since before Christmas. I believe each yorkie is different and you just can't know until they are done. :) |
