how big??? i have my 1st yorkie, alex. just how big do yorkies get? his nic name is hoss, he weighs 20 lb at 11 months. guess i have the x- large size. he is so funny. thanks:) |
hi there mine's name is axel, he is 4 months and 3.13 so almost 4 pounds, I had a boston terrier that was 20 lbs so I know that size....good luck and welcome! show us a picture |
Yorkies are not supposed to weigh over seven pounds according to the breed standard If Hoss came from a breeder who wasn't carefully breeding to produce Yorkies as close to the standard as possible, that would explain his size. |

Hoss may very well come from a breeder that is breeding to standard and line breeding.....Since so many breeds went into the final Yorkshire Terrier, it's always possible that a small one or one that exceeds standard can be produced within the same litter, just as you can have a soft coated and a silk coated pup within the same litter......All has to do with what is in the line. I know that I line breed with the best of lines in my pedigrees, and do get oversized and undersized yorkies on occassion.....This breed is not easy to breed. |
Jake is 12lbs and only 5 months...his mam is 6lb and his dad is 8lbs..... dont know how heavy Jake will be when fully grown  |

Hey your Jake is probably very healthy and loving...... |
Have fun with your big boy! I have one that is 12 lbs. Hes not standard but hes our standard. He is alot more durable and less fragile than our 6 lb yorkie |
Wow he sounds huge for a Yorkie... but I bet he's adorable still! Please post some pics! |
More to love. :tinyheart Hope to see pix. |

My yorkie is about 16 pounds and I absolutely love it. Although I used to think because she was bigger that she was not as fragile and could jump on and off things by herself and that ended up not being the case. She jumped off the couch and ended up with a soft tissue injury in her shoulder/leg and took almost a mouth to completely heal and we are lucky it wasn't a brake and now its stairs to go up and down the chair and sofa and she had to be retrained to do that instead of jumping and she has not be aloud to jump off the bed sense her injury. Just be careful with thinking there not as fragile. |

Hey, I am happy to see this thread. I have 3 yorkies, my big boy Hobbes is 10 months old and weighs 13 lbs. My vet says he is all yorkie. I saw his mom and dad and they weigh 7-8 lbs. Hobbes siblings weigh 5-7 lbs, they are females. I now have his brother from a different litter and he is 5 lbs at 16 weeks. He came from an excellent breeder but my vet told me you never can tell about genetics. Hobbes is the sweetest, most loving big boy, and more to love. |
